Love Party Animals on Emptees

Description: The road from where this concept began and the finished product is completely different than what it started as.  The original concept was more focused on less the idea of a party (and humans, not animals) and more on the idea of two people finding love in the middle of a big bash.

Head In The Clouds:  There would be a bunch of different, normal looking people either standing in a room at a party talking with one another, some on couches, some standing in the corner with a hand on the wall, some laughing over the punch bowl or in a group somewhere, etc.  Or we could have a whole bunch of people on a city street conversing and going about their day, walking across the street, buying food from a hot dog vendor, people talking and walking, etc.  In either scenario, we would have two people, one male and one female, with their bodies completely proportional to a normal person except for their giraffe-like long necks which will extend to the top or near-top of the shirt.  There will be clouds in this area and the two heads, which would be on opposite sides (or not exactly equal opposite sides to keep it looking natural and organic) would be facing towards one another with their heads popping just over the majestic clouds above, smiling at one another.  This is a visual representation of two people who are far away from one another or spot one another from across the room in a room full of people either talking to them or just carrying on, and that moment when you suddenly lock eyes with someone and the rest of the world disappears for a little while as you become enveloped in each other’s stares.  We could have some fun if this was decided to take place indoors in someone’s apartment while a random party is going on, with the necks kind of breaking through the “ceiling” of the house, and going higher and higher as the sky changes colors, possibly some gradients, and finally the heads burst through the layer of clouds, so soft and serene, with only the two heads staring at one another.

Yeah, just a weeeeeee bit different than the final piece, right?  Patrick really liked this idea but thought about slanting it in more of a party in the middle of the jungle with tons of animals, and the people's necks that were to be made as long as a giraffe's would actually be literal giraffes.  At first I was a little resistant to the drastic change of the concept and location, but after Patrick and I pitched back and forth on possibilities of the party (where all the animals of the jungle could come together and have a ball with one another) and showed me his initial sketch, I immediately got on board and we rapidly started throwing ideas around of the fun we could make this piece.  What appealed to me most was making what seemed at first a very cute, harmless party scene but throwing a whole bunch of more adult themes into the design (drinking, fighting, smoking, keg stands, etc) without going overboard into shock-value for shock sake.

Disclaimer: I came up with this concept/design on my own. After creating this I found out that Dan Rule had a similar concept. I feel that the tooth actually brushing his own hair and checking him/herself out in the mirror differentiates this enough. Plus the styles are totally different. Props to Dan for coming up with a great design with "Toothbrush" and I hope everyone appreciates my own take on a concept I came up with without seeing his design.
