How come the tag is white and not pink? Doesn't it cost them more to print an extra colour?

This is now the first blog about this tee, thanks to the robots.

maybe the white ink is cheaper than the pink ink.

Ha ha. I thought it was really lame.

I'm not sure that she is, because it costs to add another colour, so I'd have thought that expense would offset the cost of pink ink, if that is more expensive anyway. Though maybe, I do remember there being something special about the ink...

It's a mystery.

someone from threadless said the pink ink they used was some extra-special thin ink to provide maximum movement or SOME BULLSHIT.. i'm pretty sure that bullshit was bullshit, though. in the event it wasn't bullshit, perhaps that could be a piece to this puzzle
bananaphone

the tag would have been a seperate plate yeah, so the colour of the ink shouldnt be relevant. unless they do the print and tag on one plate.

It says on the closeup of the design that the ink is translucent fluorescent... I guess that's the mystery solved. Expensive ink. (The 20th comment comes to the same conclusion as the 3rd. I'm quick on the uptake...)

Wait, NEW MYSTERY! Why didn't they use a normal pink on the tag? Or blue, that would have been pretty.

extra "colors" are really just extra screens, it doesn't matter what color it is if it's in a different spot on the shirt, it's still going to cost as an extra "color"
loserbeech
loserbeech on May 21 '06 at 7:50pm
I really didn't know that.

So that raises the question, why do Threadless print the tags in light T-shirts with dark colours? I thought it was because they were trying to stick with the same colours as the design, but if they don't have to do that, then printing the tags in light shirts with a light colour would prevent me looking like I have a dirty neck.

I just mean price-wise, you can print it in any color and it'll be the same price, at least that's how the printshop I use does it.

perhaps white is cheaper than colour and purchasable in bulk
bananaphone
   bananaphone on May 21 '06 at 7:53pm
yes frank but if they use a different plate for the tags then it doesnt matter at all what colour they make the tag so long as the inks available.

It is quite possible that they would have printed white underneath the pink... the pink would have been more translucent without it, therefore losing it's impact, and changing how the design looks altogether. Most colours printed on black need this so the pink doesn't blend into the black.

I have pink screenprinting ink myself... I know this from tests

I looked for pink underneath, but I don't think so. I could see the black through the ink.
loserbeech
loserbeech on May 22 '06 at 5:10am
For white underneath the pink I mean, sorry.

Who knows... all I know is that they do a pretty good job at alignment and fine details.

And... the other possible reasons seem about right too-white=cheaper... leftover white from other prints etc...
