every day i see more and more jesus shirts on threadless, and all the mixed feelings are quite amusing to me. most people are now just saying that they're tired of seeing jesus on shirts, but every once in a while you get lucky and find a comment from a devout christian who takes it all way too seriously and gives you a piece of their mind. "I'm sorry you feel this way. I'll pray that you will meet some sincere Christians who will change your view on this." thats from "the fine print" shirt. i dunno, but that stuff makes me laugh, cus come on, its just a t-shirt. people are finding humor in the unknown possibilities of religion. how can scrybe, who posted taht comment, know that maybe jesus, or st. peter, or whoever, isnt sitting at the gates of heaven with his hand out saying, "bitch, you owe me money." but then again, this is all coming from an atheist. just thought i'd see if jesus freaks make anyone else laugh.

oh, and after i posted this, i started thinking again, and to what i've seen here, the only people who react defensively to religion shirts are christians. shirts that depict or poke fun of other religions arent made into such a big deal.

My parents are almost Jesus freaks. We never go to church or anything, but I can't buy a few shirts because of hidden demonic spirits. They burned my copy of World of Warcraft because it was evil.

ugh. that's horrible. i remember my friend back in 5th grade got a new step dad and he took away all of his magic the gathering cards because he considered it sorcery. i really want to knock some sense into people like that.

well. i think that they should be able to say that something offends them. i don't think it should have any bearing on whether or not the shirt is printed. but if a submission was extremely sexist or went against any of my values, i'd definitely speak up. if we deny them the right to do so, we'd have to deny ourselves the same right.

oh, hi5.... i love you for trying. and probably succeding. since i guess your goal is to piss people off. and you probably WILL piss off people. but the more of an ass you are, the more people will learn to ignore you.

but back to talking about jesus....

i found a rad picture of him on google. it's my profile pic.
and personally, i think jesus is alright. (or at least what he stands for, anyways)...i think it's the bible that is a lot of outdated, tight-assed phooey.

i'm probably going to hell for saying that.

jesus was a good man. he taught people to live decent lives and to be moral. he may or may not have been the savior but he was still a righteous guy. so, bottlesandcans, find better use of your life. i'd actually recommend church to you although i don't believe in attending myself. you just need something to keep you busy...

I personally feel that Jesus has been overused in designs. He isn't really as aesthically interesting as other religious icons, so I don't get it. The Hindu gods have lots of arms and animal heads and stuff. Why not use them?

I agree with some of Jesus' teachings of peace and love, but I really disagree with a lot of the bible, and partly because I'm an atheist, believe that zen and bhudism are even better ways to think about life. So, if somone wants to make a funny "Jesus" shirt, why not, and let the devout christians complain, but they should not influence the fact that the shirt gets picked or voted highly (or spma the forums)

I am a Christian I suppose if I was to need to put a label on it.
I am Saved, and Im Queer, a pro choice Democrat, and have a sick @ss since of humor. I have my own belief system. I meditate and have a respect for Wicca, Buddism, and a large portion of most eastern religions. I belive in God and Jesus. I belive I am a sinner, we all are. I pray when I remember too. I give thanks for everything from my meals to my Dog. When I make it a point to be more in touch with my spiritual side, I feel more at ease in my own skin. I have alotta health issues, so comfort in just about any form is welcomed....
Damn I got my ramble on.........

jesus loves my big faggy ass, and I still don't understand it all, not even 12% of it........

It seems to me that the problem with most religions isn't the doctrine itself, for the most part. It's peoples' interpretation of said doctrine. The core belief's of most religions are very similar, it's the ceremony that's different. What angers me is that people continue to kill each other over it.

Can anyone imagine Jesus with the money bags of Carnegie? That'd be really funny.

>> sitting at the gates of heaven...
I thought there was no Heaven, and all that there is, is either on earth, or in the minds of men, who are on earth.

Jesus is an easy target for joke shirts because it's so easy to imagine him doing or saying absurd things. You're right though, most of us are way too uptight about it. Usually I'm very agreeable about humorous Jeasy Creasy shirts, but I bristle a bit when I see designs that seem misrepresentative.

As for people killing each other, it really saddens me that people do stuff like that and cite religion as the reason for it. But people are petty by nature. Religion aside, we'd still find stupid reasons to kill each other. People just use it as an excuse; it's not the religion itself that inspires murderous intent.

I also contend that Christianity's core beliefs are fundamentally different from every other religion, but this isn't the place to preach so I'll just leave my objection at that. Cheers!

If Jesus were around today he'd totally be spreading the word with tshirts... he'd probably have a Loves Threadless contest.

I wonder if Threadless has been approuched by any religous organizations?

The problem is that most people have an incorrect view of Jesus and Christianity. It's not really their fault because most Christians and Christian Institutions and groups reinforce the views by acting like dicks and being bigots, hating gays etc. Anyway I just want to say to all you non-Christians out there that the true message of the Bible isn't anywhere near how most Christians make it seem to be, you should check it out and read it for yourself sometime. Also don't look to any person for an example of what a good Christian is other than Jesus (even though he was technically Jewish).

Sounds kinda preachy but hopefully my point comes across. Anyway I don't mind the Jesus shirts as long as they are funny and don't falsely represent his teachings without obviously being jokes (I did get upset a while back with a shirt that had Jesus saying the earth was flat).

lol. Everyone should read the Da Vinci Code because Dan Brown is really a genius and knows what he's talking about. He is better than any other author ever!!!! The part about the Mickey Mouse watch was my favorite.

Meanwhile.... I don't think there is any way that you could know if Jesus was actually dark or not. He probably was because he was in the sun a lot, but with a virgin birth he technically would have only had dna from Mary, if that. The idea is that he had a pure strain of genes, like the original man, so no one can really know what he looked like except for people at the time, and no one really said much about how his melanin levels. Melanin is what causes the differences between skin, eye, and hair colors, or what we call "race".

He was from the middle east. He had the complexion of an arab.
There can be no denying that. The image of Christ which is in our collective conscience is that which was created by the renaissance painters, and obviously modelled on themselves (European/Italian)

Dan Brown isn't saying anything new. There have been numerous books written about this topic. 'Holy Blood Holy Grail' by Michael Baigent being the most famous (infamous) one. But I suggest you also read a book called 'The Hiram Key' by Christopher Knight & Robert Lomas. There are numerous others, too many to mention here. Just look it up on amazon.

I just read what you wrote about 'Jesus being like the original man'. It's been well documented, and most researchers, archeologists, paleontologists, historians et al. agree that homosapiens (the species we are now) evolved and migrated out of Africa. i.e. the 'original man' was black. I don't see how that supports your view about him being white
