How long do you guys take to rate each shirt? Is it just a quick glance, or more of an in-depth 30 seconds of reflection?

I try to give each submission at least a little bit of attention, even if the design is horrible.

Point, Click, Vote.

ok sometimes I'll stop to really look over the details, but only if if catches my attention.

I'll give it a glance with cursor hanging over the 0, but if something makes me stop, I guarantee it'll get a 1 at least. If I find myself zooming or looking closer, I'll spend a minute or two. By that time, I'll check the comments, too.

i was considering starting a blog under with a similar thought in mind, how do people score a design? is it purely arbitrary?, or do you take into account design and artistic merit? or a combination of all three? for me it depends on what mood i'm in, although i try to judge on the artistic merit of each individual design, there are some things i am so sick of seeing that i mark them down, which is wrong i guess, but it's so hard to stay objective sometimes!

For me, if it's something any hack (ie: myself) could do, I tend to score it low, unless the concept catches me (ShamPoo, for instance, made me laugh my ass off. Mostly because the word Poo tickles my funnybone.

Otherwise, if I just plain don't like it, I score it low.

I try to score everything and - if I feel that it merits one, or if I feel that I can get my critique off without sounding like a bitch - comment on the ones I have opinions on, whether they're "This sucks" or "that mouse is biting my nipple" or "what a beautiful drawing."

This is just my opinion, but if you don't like the idea behind a shirt, mark it low and move on. If I disagree with a shirt on a personal level - if it's got people committing suicide or a down-with-industry theme - I tend to not comment.

Because you come across as an ass starting a debate about something that nobody's going to change their opinion about in the artistic comments section on a commercial t-shirt judging site.

More apropritely, you can start a blog about it in here, but go ahead and read Kallen's "RACISM AND PREJUDICE ON THREADLESS" blog entry for an excellent example of how that can go to piss.

As far as "Mmm..." goes, you know the artwork isn't cleaned up enough to get chosen and printed, and even the people who are defending the concept - myself among this group - are marking the shirt badly. So why exert the energy? I like to go through the comments, and if my comment's already there, then I either don't comment, or voice my agreement if it's a really good point or if I have something to add.

All that having been said, I'm pretty mouthy.
