I've been wanting to do an 80's inspired design for a while. And I love 50's movie posters. Why not combine them ;)

It's been a while since my last submission with the distractions of full-time jobs and such unspeakable necessities.
But I've finally found the time to submit a new design - kind of like a sequel to Aliens Gave My Cat a Beard!

My second loves horror submission! Oh the terror ;)

Just in the nick of time before this comp finishes!

I had this idea on my lunch break on Friday and tried to capture it as soon as I could :)

Hey guys, Lidija and I just wanted to briefly share the process behind our current collab. The design is based on an element of Lidija's earlier sub called "I like Tea" (below, top left)

We wanted to rework this image using a more realistic style with a vintage feel. The images below are a small collection of the reference material that Lidija sent.



My first sketch -



Based on Lidija's feedback, the next step was to make the tea cup more dainty and delicate - to really contrast with the terrors of the deep!!! We also introduce the teaspoon and sugarcubes to help set the scene.



Once we were both happy with the general composition, it was inking time. I didn't use squid ink though I could have if I wanted to.



--and cleaned up in photoshop



Concurrently to my inking, Lidija was on the other side of the world testing out some colourschemes.



We both agreed "Seafoam" was the right shirt for us, so we fine-tuned the colours to work on this base colour.



And squiddy rises from the depths!!!



Check out this wonderful package of confectionary goodness I recieved as a generous token of appreciation from Lidija!! How thoughtful!! Also some wonderful postcards featuring her sweet designs :)
