Tonight, my cousin and I went out to celebrate our 25th birthdays with our siblings. We decided to go to a place called Yard House in a safeish/nice area in San Jose called Santana Row. What happened tonight will probably stick with me forever because it was such a traumatizing experience.
We were seated in our booth right by some windows and were just getting settled in. Our waitress came by to hand us some utensils and some menus. As we were opening the menus, one of my cousins asked, "Can they see us through the windows?" A minute later, we hear a loud noise and I figured someone had dropped something so I looked over my shoulder. The next thing you know, my sister shoved me out of the booth and said "GET DOWN!" It turned out that our window was shot at and the whole thing looked shattered. My family and I were on the ground, and then we heard another shot. The window next to us was also hit. More and more people got down on the ground trying to avoid getting hit by whoever was shooting at the restaurant. A third window was also shot at. By that time, everyone was on the ground. I looked around and saw fear in everyone's eyes. Children were crying, people were under tables, others were hiding behind columns and some were trying to see if they could see outside. I don't think I've ever felt so scared in my life. While I was on the ground, I kept thinking, "Why? What did I get ourselves into?" The cops got there quickly and they blocked off the main entrance of the shopping center. It turns out that other places in the area were also hit. The person who did all this damage wasn't caught because nobody saw anyone. It was probably someone doing a drive by. Once the cops got there, regular business carried on, which kind of surprised me. Initially, I wanted to get out of there, but then we had talked to one of the managers and he offered us $50-80 off our check if we came back and that we'd get seated first. We ended up just staying there and we were offered a round of appetizers and drinks for everyone at the table. I think they came to a conclusion that a bb gun was used. All three windows had dents and were shattered, but whatever hit the windows didn't actually pierce through. That dickwad better be caught. I seriously don't understand what goes through some peoples' minds. Here's a photo of the windows:  And this is why I don't celebrate my birthday, mitchloidolt. Good times. Good times.

I knew that once I hit the road today, that today would be a bad day.
I left for work at a time later than I usually do to find out that the freeway entrance by my house was closed off, so I had to take a giant detour to hop onto another freeway and barely made it to work on time. Once I got home, I noticed that the carpet had been vacuumed and things just felt wrong. When I asked my dad where my dog was, he told me, "She's outside." As I looked from the door, I asked, "Where is she?" The next thing he said was "She's gone. We buried her in the backyard." My baby girl Lucky passed away around 9 am this morning. I got her as a puppy when I was in the 5th grade, so she would've been 15 years old this coming October. The house is going to be a lot quieter now, and it saddens me. It still hasn't really hit me that she's gone. I didn't get to say goodbye to her this morning as she watched me get ready for work, but I held her in my arms last night and gave her some kisses and told her that I loved her. I knew her days were numbered and I even told Alvin last night that I thought she would pass away soon, but I didn't expect that day to be today. I'm glad she isn't suffering anymore and that she fought to stay with us as long as she could take it. She passed away with the people she loved the most holding her in their hands. That's all I could ask for, I guess... R.I.P. Lucky. I'll miss you. You'll always be my baby girl.  
My fortune cookie from two weeks ago told me:
 ... and guess what? It was right! I LANDED MY FIRST JOB EVER IN MY FIELD! As many of you guys know, I've been pursuing my nursing career ever since I started blogging on Threadless, which was 5 years ago. Seriously, you guys have been with me throughout the whole process. You've seen me get rejected from my first application for the program, you've seen me get accepted into it a year later. For two years, some of you have seen me studying my butt off, dealt with my roller coaster of emotions, seen me graduate, and a whole bunch more. I still remember getting the call telling me I got into the program, walking the stage a year ago, and celebrating officially becoming a nurse with Threadfriends during Combocon. Less than 3 weeks ago, I got a call from a hospital telling me they wanted to set up an interview with me. That next week, I had my very first interview, and that led to a second interview. Let me tell you this. I started to doubt myself as the days passed by, but it all changed an hour ago. I got the call from the hospital, and they offered me a position on one of their units! I accepted, so it's official! I am an employed registered nurse! From my bloggerraiser entry last year: Surviving the nursing program would not have been possible without Threadless. Every time I was stressed out, I would turn to a Threadless friend or the blogs to decompress. The program was very stressful at times, but chatting with people from the site helped put me at ease. You guys have been with me right from the beginning. You've seen me get rejected the first year I applied to the program, and have followed me ever since. Without all of the love, support, and encouragement, none of this would have been possible. Look at me now! I'm officially a registered nurse! I love you guys. :D SAY WHAT?!?!?!?!?
