Tonight, my cousin and I went out to celebrate our 25th birthdays with our siblings. We decided to go to a place called Yard House in a safeish/nice area in San Jose called Santana Row. What happened tonight will probably stick with me forever because it was such a traumatizing experience.
We were seated in our booth right by some windows and were just getting settled in. Our waitress came by to hand us some utensils and some menus. As we were opening the menus, one of my cousins asked, "Can they see us through the windows?" A minute later, we hear a loud noise and I figured someone had dropped something so I looked over my shoulder. The next thing you know, my sister shoved me out of the booth and said "GET DOWN!" It turned out that our window was shot at and the whole thing looked shattered. My family and I were on the ground, and then we heard another shot. The window next to us was also hit. More and more people got down on the ground trying to avoid getting hit by whoever was shooting at the restaurant. A third window was also shot at. By that time, everyone was on the ground. I looked around and saw fear in everyone's eyes. Children were crying, people were under tables, others were hiding behind columns and some were trying to see if they could see outside. I don't think I've ever felt so scared in my life. While I was on the ground, I kept thinking, "Why? What did I get ourselves into?" The cops got there quickly and they blocked off the main entrance of the shopping center. It turns out that other places in the area were also hit. The person who did all this damage wasn't caught because nobody saw anyone. It was probably someone doing a drive by. Once the cops got there, regular business carried on, which kind of surprised me. Initially, I wanted to get out of there, but then we had talked to one of the managers and he offered us $50-80 off our check if we came back and that we'd get seated first. We ended up just staying there and we were offered a round of appetizers and drinks for everyone at the table. I think they came to a conclusion that a bb gun was used. All three windows had dents and were shattered, but whatever hit the windows didn't actually pierce through. That dickwad better be caught. I seriously don't understand what goes through some peoples' minds. Here's a photo of the windows:  And this is why I don't celebrate my birthday, mitchloidolt. Good times. Good times.
