I am currently using Photoshop 7 to do all my drawing and painting on my wacom tablet. The problem is that everything looks like shit nd is not clean like those made in illustrator.

Any ideas to the painfully vague problem?

yeah, if you don't have Illustrator try the pen tool. it's as close as you'll get to illustrator. and throw away the wacom and use your mouse. hand drawn wacom lines add too many points in a path.

if you are painting in photoshop, make sure you have the dpi setting pretty high.. like atleast 300

more points means more rigid lines, a good vector circle has only 4 points, a hand drawn one would have dozens and be all wobbly

I dont use the wacom with the pen tool. Only the others like brush and lasso. I just designed my tattoo of three koinarobi that represent my sibling and I in photoshop after I learned how to use the pen correctly.

hooray!
i've never used brushes in illustrator. there's so many dodgy stroke effects and pattern fills and i've yet to see any need for any of them.
show us the tattoo when you get a chance.

You can still use the Wacom for your vectoring. It has all of the same functions as the mouse and more, plus it doesn't cause Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. You don't HAVE to use vectors to make a Tee design, so don't box yourself into that. All you really have to do is separate each color onto a different layer and draw at the print size in 300dpi. Practice will make your lines cleaner, but honestly I don't think you need the sterile vector look. That ship has sailed, and at some point it will fizzle as a trend here as well.

vector isn't stale by definition, that's only the result of inexperienced vector users submitting half finished designs. vector and hand drawn are pretty equal when you break it down, i just prefer vector because i have a shaky hand and vector gives me batter control.

plus if you design a postage stamp then a month later you decide that you want to make it into a bill board for the side of a 100 story building you don't have to rework your image...

Try making your own brushes in Illustrator...I never use the standard ones. The most invaluable brush for me is an art brush that's kind of a leaf shape...ie, tapered each end...it makes a great ink/brush stroke & can give a really fluid, organic effect. You can expand them if you like too...works really well doing hair too.
