about Goatse
Funny how people feel inclined to comment on how much they hate a design but rarely write anything about designs they love. How about directing your attention to designs you love rather than continuing to provoke people into submit shocking work just so they can get a rise out of you?

I think it may be because people b elieve that the design will be removed if they complain enough. Saying that they like a shirt won't make it appear in every size in every color and make donuts when you wear it.

actually you have a much higher chance of getting a design printed by saying how much you love it than by getting a design removed by saying how much you hate it. we've NEVER removed a design but nearly every design on here was printed because people voted and or commented that they liked it, or reprinted because they put in a request for it to be reprinted.

nor would we remove this design - its purpose is to shock and it's selling quite well

Whoa now. Every day somebody posts about a shirt that they a) just got and love; b) just saw and love; c) just ordered and love; d) just love e) want a reprint of. The only difference is that there are a whole bunch of different shirts that people love, and one that everybody hates right now. Check the blogs about Who I Am.

This is really interesting... reading the comments on the submission vs the blogs on the product: http://threadless.com/submission/33582/Goatse

I have no doubt that the people who were excited about scoring it are excited about buying it. But then there's a whole lot of us who hadn't seen the design on the site, were pretty unimpressed with OMG anyway and were surprised to see it printed.

Well, I've expressed my love for Road Block and Neonmedia 2, but no one seems to pay attention to that.

you know you make a good point about the comments. I guess it's time you guys printed that something that wasn't faux-intellectual and whimsical. Stupid shit sells... You can't really argue with broadening the appeal of a commercial enterprise. On the other hand, I think the shirt is poorly executed and tasteless. That's just my own opinion.

I agree with KEMMLER on this one... stupid shit does sell, like hot-cakes. I'm sure t-shirthell does really well for themselves... but I thought Threadless was about design. This shirts is as out of place as a fart joke in a Wes Anderson movie.

"This is really interesting... reading the comments on the submission vs the blogs on the product: http://threadless.com/submission/33582/Goatse"

If this was a Threadless submission, why does it fall into the realm of OMG?

Why do people care so much? Just don't buy it. I don't yell at McDonald's because they make fish sandwiches do I?(I hate fish sandwiches...that's how this ties together) No...I buy a cheeseburger...(sweet #2 Extra Value meal)

People that like fish sandwiches and the Goatse shirt will buy it...we can still all meet for lunch.

There's this little document, you may be aware of it, called the Bill of Rights, which is part of another document called the Constitution of the United States of America. Item one of that document, and I'm paraphrasing here, the right to free speech. You may also be aware that this country was pretty much founded by people who were very vocal in their opinions.

You may not yell at McDonald's, but then that's your perogative. In much the same way that other people get to exercise their views as well. You may also be aware that several people have successfully sued McDonald's for differnt reasons, again exercising their opinions.

So to wrap things up, I think that everyone gets to say what they want provided they stay within the Threadless guidelines.

he's right though...both the fish sandwiches and this shirt suck.

A little perspective for Mr. Domino. Yes, this country was founded by people who were very vocal about their opinions. Of course, the vast majority of these people were of the opinion that:

Black people weren't people at all, but were commodities to be bought, sold, and destroyed as seen fit.

Aboriginals (indians), were savages with little or no intelligence who needed to be trained in the white man's ways to keep them from harming themselves or "us". And when they resisted, they were destroyed in "self-defense."

Women had neither the sense, nor the right to vote or be involved in any affairs of state other than planning dinners and other get togethers. So, while vocalization of an opinion is your right, it's not always right, or the right thing to do.

Regarding people sewing McDonalds because they're fat or got burned because the coffee was hot:

This is not an expression of opinion, this is a manipulation of a faulty system. Unfortunately, they won, further fracturing the system.

Finally, everyone does have the right to say what they want within the guidelines of this site, but that doesn't mean that they should say it. Just because you can do something, doesn't make it the right thing to do.

Oh yeah, and, I don't like this shirt or fish sandwiches either.

Love how some people assume this site is only presented to Americans.

It's the WORLD wide web.
MrDomino
   MrDomino on May 11 '05 at 11:57am
Haha, Waaaay off topic and totally my fault. You are both right and wrong daddyDom. But I agree with your assertion. There are certain logical exceptions to this freedom, the cliche is yelling "fire" in a crowded room. And yes, this country has a long and unpleasant past that we largely inherited from the British colonial racial identities, a legacy of the "Enlightenment." That doesn't fraud the validity of the basic concept: free speech. I think everyone, including the designers of this shirt, including people I vehemently disagree with, should have the space to air their opinions. Because usually the real answer lies somewhere in the middle not on the fringe.

And while this IS the world wide web, this business is based in Chicago, so I think it's fair to refer to America as "this country." I'd expect the same for Asian or European websites in reference to their respective countries.

ASIAM CLOTHING:

GRAPHIC DESIGNERS WANTED

Our vision:

We came together to form Asiam Clothing because we

felt there are no clothing companies that designed

with our tastes in mind. We envision ASIAM CLOTHING as

a clothing line that fits a niche not yet represented

in the retail market. Seeing a lack of merchandise

that fits our needs, we believe that our Asian

American Inspired Clothing Company meets that need.

What we are looking for:

We strive to build strong relationships with talented

young designers thus creating top quality branding. We

are currently hiring per design and looking towards,

per season, to full time employment in the future.

Compensation will be competitive with market prices

starting at $100 per design and up.

If you would like to create or currently have some

prototypes for us to view, some designs we are

currently pursuing are:

1. a dragon embroidered logo

2. a modernized ying and yang design

3. Asian horoscope characters with a retro feel

4. your own view of a design that fits our style

If you are interested in working with our company,

e-mail submissions and your contact information to:

asiamclothing@gmail.com . A follow up meeting will be

scheduled. (No designs will be used without

compensation and/or approval)

Please share this with any parties that you believe

may be interested.

Ignoring the add for designers....

I like designs that make me laugh.

I like designs that I will confuse my friends when I wear them to work, without getting me pulled into the HR shop for the poop flowing out of someones bottom into an ice cream cone (for instace).

what the hell are you up to steve? do you have a crush on skaw? why are you dredging up these dead blogs?

There is no such thing as a dead blog. There are only dead bloggers.

I have been reading old blogs for a few days (ever since someone posted a response to a several-month-old blog, and I found that they were there). I have done a few trial runs at tilling up the soil, as it were.

My interest in slaw comes from his haiku contest.

It all really comes from two cups of coffee at 4pm. I'm sorry.
