You counted wrong, vindicco. There are most definitely 99 balloons. I used Paint to but a black mark on each one that I counted, just to be sure =)

Yeah, I'm positive it's not about baby Elliot. "Neinundneinzig Luftballons" came out in 1983, and the English counterpart "Ninety-Nine Red Balloons" came out in 1984, years before the whole Oprah baby thing.

I agree that it looks like blood droplets.
But there is a story behind the 99 balloons. Its about a lil baby Elliot who lived for just 99 days.
