All wrong on the date of the internet.
1969 is arpa, a networking protocol but not the "internet" as presently defined.
1983 gave us BBS and similar protocols, but that wasn't the internet either.
Bender tells us that the internet was officially that on August 6th, 1991.
that's a way bigger window.
Before October 29th 1969 "I'm older than ARPANET" (If you are, you probably still call it DARPA)
Before Jan 1st 1983 "I'm older than TCP\IP protocols" (not a catchy shirt)
Before August 6th 1991 "I'm older than the internet" (Huge customer demographic)
I'm not... dang it!!! haha
I am so totally older than the internet. The 2nd one.
Oh man, if the modern internet was invented in January 1983, I might be a few days younger than the internet.
I'm pretty sure Al Gore wasn't involved in my creation.
bortwein, hasn't it been 28 years since 1983?
love this T and am definitely old enuf to wear it, but please add another style girly shirt.. almost any other style. The text ts with this cut rarely look good.
@bortwein I guess it really depends on whether or not ARPAnet can really be considered 'The Internet'. IMHO (and your source kind-of supports this), ARPAnet was more of a precursor to what's considered to be the modern Internet. So... as long as you're born before January 1983 then this shirt is still valid.
I think it might be referring more to the WWW for some reason...
I love this shirt! Too bad I'm too young to wear it. I do however have a strong feeling I will be seeing some teenager wearing it on the Internet soon.
Forgot to post my source: http://www.labnol.org/internet/favorites/how-old-is-the-internet/6244/
The longer answer is not as simple. The ARPAnet, the predecessor of the Internet, was born in November 1969, making the Internet 39 years old.
In January 1983, ARPAnet shifted to the TCP/IP protocol, which to this date powers the modern Internet. If that is taken as the birth date, the Internet becomes around 25 years old.
You'd have to be born on or before 10:30 p.m. (PST), October 29, 1969.
How old do you actually have to be to wear this?
