Congrats ;D
Eelahnah is correct, albeit a stylized version of the city. For those interested, the illustration was created using numerous reference images from the area.
BTW, thanks to everyone for their support.
the cityscape IS based on Japan. Trust me, I've been there
I think people don't get it..
By buying the shirt, you help rebuild Japan.
The design is of a japanese city being rebuilt, and as the city gets closer to being completely rebuilt, the Japanese flag is slowly taking form.
HOW IS THIS A BAD DESIGN???
I mean this is probably one of the most intelligent designs I've seen on the website, and it was made for the best cause!
I like the subtlety of this design... For people who want to aid the relief by buying a cool tshirt I think it kinda fits the bill. Ive featured on my blog too... www.cooltshirtdesign.co.uk/design-tshirts/rebuild-japan-tshirt
This shirt would be perfect if the cityscape was actually based on Japan in any way. Like, it just needs Tokyo Tower in the background or something. As it is, it's kind of cool but it's not a must buy.
Threadless, I love you, but $5 shipping and it STILL takes you more than 2 weeks to get me a goddamned T-shirt? Charge less or deliver more.
good cause, bad design....there is almost no connection with rebuilding....really don't like it.....i would buy it only to help Japan....but then drop the t-shirt in deepest corner of my closet!
The design is subtle and simple. Well done. As for people that are buy charities shirts with the Rising Sun flag design used in it be aware that flag is associated with the Imperial Japanese Army of WW2 and is viewed very negatively by other Asian countries.
I like this shirt. It has a minimalistic quality to it that I find very attractive. Above all that, it's for a good cause, so who cares what it looks like.... I mean, I think it's very clever, look at it closely, its the Japanese Flag! If that doesn't capture "the spirit of the Japanese people" I haven't a clue what does.
Hm, there were a lot much nicer t-shirts which represented Japan much better. I am disappointed, I am currently thinking about buying this one:

Ok, the design is nothing original, but reminds Japan much better and the money also goes to the Japanese people (via Japanese Red Cross ).
Wonderful design. Congrats on the print. Thanks, Threadless for helping out the world.
My biggest issue with this shirt is it doesn't represent the spirit of Japan at all. Now maybe they chose this shirt because its all white and very basic but there were plenty of other shirts that were all white and still I felt represented the spirit of japan.
Works well. A good choice for the competition.
New to this so maybe I'm speaking out of place, to the majority of the naysayers: motivation behind this is relief and charity. The design doesn't matter, could be a picture of a burrito, as long as the funds are allocated properly. Maybe it should just be words "I donated money to a ravaged country and all I got was this stupid shirt".
Wow, I feel tall on this box.
