Actually, it's latin, pulled from an old book on theories of ethics, so technically it does have meaning, just not in the out-of-context short snippet we use for layout text today. Check out lipsum.com for more info.

It actually says: "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" which is the most common layout text. It has no meaning at all.
