Abstract Wars
Iwas getting a bit sick of all pop culture designs on threadless, and thinking about some scientists' studies on perception of beauty on a human being somehow largely connected to familiar features (subconsciously), and wondered if this could be applied in the attractiveness of pop culture designs (aside from nostalgia, humour and stuff).
Then, here you go, may be the most popular and most interpreted pop culture phenomenon, into its most abstract interpretation ever (may be :p).
Nothing serious though, I'm actually having a try, wondering if it's worth something.
"Hmmm, new t-shirt ? You like abstract stuff ? I don't know why, but this reminds me of something, I can't put my finger on it though, something... a long time ago... far, far away..."
I think it works, but I have no hindsight.

neat. this is very abstract. but maybe a bit too much to get the point across.

I'm really glad you did this. The characters take some figuring out and require more than a little familiarity, but it's a hell of a lot more provocative than any other pop culture reference I've seen on Threadless before.

Thank you all ! Much appreciated
Yeah, I'd rather make it too hard than make it too easy, it wouldn't be interesting anyway, and people staring at it for a while, then getting their eye bulging (red veins and stuff) and shouting EUREKA MOTH-RF-CK-NG HOLY SH-- ! THIS IS STAR WARS ! would be priceless.
I'm already amazed that someone could get Leia's buns haha ;)

i get everyone except the one on the far left.. is it sposed to be boba fett? 5$$ anw, for ausumness (:
Plu Shu
Thanks !
No, Boba Fett would have different colors, and the same size as the "normal" guys, and as you can see, there are only good guys. The colors and the one next to him should give you a hint ;)
I think it was the hardest to do with my limited abstract self-imposed rules (only squares or rectangles, no small detail, nothing round, and nothing must get out of the main shape).

I like this. Peter Saville-esqe!

Took me a minute to get it. And we all know my take on parody shirts. But this one is really good. Not the normal run of the mill rip. Nice job.

Totally didn't see Star Wars in this design, ha. I thought at first some kind of diskette parody, a lineup of all the storage mediums we've had in the past. And then I thought, the Watchmen? And i thought i was the king of recognizing parody designs. I think this is more of a really cool exercise than shirt, but nice piece nonetheless.

My issue here is that even with the abstraction, we are left with boxes in a line. I'd love to see more people try to push the envelope with pop culture, and I certainly appreciate the attempt, but it also needs to end up being a great shirt, as well.
Plu Shu
Thank you all !
AdderXYU: well it is meant to boxes on a line ;)
I like minimalism, so I actually like the aesthetic of it, and it is not just meaning but also the very minimalistic shape of it which is the point of it. But if you're not into this kind of stuff, can't help it ;) Thanks for your opinion !
Thank you all for the interesting feedback :)

Great concept, but I have no idea who the two on the left are! Spill it!
Plu Shu
Haha, Ithought Yoda was the most obvious :p green, brown robe, small. Next to him is Luke, blond, white kimono, blue lightsaber.
Thanks !

Oops. Empty comment. :)
I immediately thought the square on the far right resembled R2, and then realized what I was looking at. I'm not a die-hard SW fan, but love the movies, and I figured it out pretty quickly. Nice concept!
