My boyfriend will love this, but for a different reason to the rest of you. He's a forester. Not all deforestation is unsustainable. I like this T because it is open to both sides of the argument.

Right you are 'elliegantz'. I used to be in countryside management and have cut down many a tree where appropriate. However I sleep well in the knowledge that I have also planted thousands of native trees over the years.

Actually, most of the air we breathe is from surface level algae and similar plant life in the ocean. Deforestation is bad, but not so much from that angle as many others, like endangering species and destroying indigenous societies.

Yes I listened to a programme on Radio 4 a while back about the ocean which enlightened me to this fact about the algae - very interesting. Unfortunately I think people are more passionate about protecting trees then algae. You are right though the lost of bio diversity and the destruction of indigenous cultures are hugely important issues that I my self am very passionate about.
