I tried adding an orange glow circle thing under the bed, but it didn't look good...or make sense.

ahaha this is a great idea. i think maybe, work a little more expression into the faces (to accentuate the worry?)? also, the edges of the bed spread seem a bit ragged, which may throw some people off.

The kid's head looks a bit odd to me, especially the eyes.

I have seen those signs, and I don't get it either? I think the shirt color should be something more light, just to give your design a little more contrast. Also the legs of the monster appear to be a darker brown rather than black, if so then you would have more then 5 colors.

The kids afraid of the monster and the monster is afraid of the kid. The kid's using an octopus-bat-like symbol in his speech and the monster is using a children at play symbol.

Also maybe the monster's thought should be upsidedown too?
