Announcing new sizes, new colors and new prices!

Hey there, buck-a-roos! We've got some exciting news! The wait is finally over, and we're now printing new designs EXCLUSIVELY on our own brand of tees! This news comes with the news of new sizes, new colors, and new prices! Let's jump right in!

NEW SIZES & COLORS!
We're now offering FOUR new sizes for all of the Threadless brand tees: XS in guys and girly tees, 2XL in girly tees, and 3XL in guys tees! Oh yeah! We'll also be rolling out new colors over the next few months, which are already available in the submission template for all the designers to jam on! Also, now that we're using our own tees, take a peek at our brand-spankin' new size chart page to see how this may or may not affect your size! www.threadless.com/sizechart

NEW PRICING STRUCTURE!
As of today, prices will be dependent on what's on the tee, starting at $15! As seen on each new product page, the printing and decoration techniques and processes are now detailed to help illustrate how price is determined. This means that Selects will not automatically be $25 and the regular tees will not automatically be $15 and $17. And now the ladies won't have to feel slighted either! Guys and girly tees are now equally priced!

All of the above tee changes apply ONLY to the new Threadless brand tees, which we are now using exclusively for new designs! As always, we'd love to hear your thoughts and concerns on all of these new changes.

hey thats awesome bout exclusive threadless shirts, but it would be cool if you guys could keep prices low :P i understand your a company that needs to make a profit but its just that after shipping and tax 15 makes it reasonable for us canadians to buy. hope u consider. but keep up the great shirts!

I think the prices seem very fair... It would be really cool if you could let us know on the product pages why the specific shirt is more expensive, like with specialty inks, oversize print, 8 inks, or whatnot.

shakethesheets, there will be explanation on every product page, it just takes some time to go through all the old shirts and list the inks.

for instance, check out this one: http://www.threadless.com/product/1152/Magic_Paintbrush

you can see it right under the product photo! :)

also keep in mind that the quality fabric, etc of our new cut is far superior to FOTL and therefore it costs us a bit more than FOTL did - more along the lines of AA pricing. by still starting the pricing at $15 and working up from there based on print techniques and such we've reached a pretty solid compromise in keeping our pricing reasonable and improving the quality of our products.

Thanks for the update. I love almost all of this weeks prints, and the pricing doesn't bother me (now I just need to find another freelance job so I can buy them hehe)

My only wierdness is on the sizes.. I wore AA Girly Mediums and ordered a Threadless Girls Medium and it was too small.. I ordered a Threadless Girls Large and that fit like my AA Mediums... so I dunno if I got a freak run or if the threadless sizes actually run a full size smaller than the AA's so I will always have to order a size up??

Eh... price thing bothers me. $15 was just right, and I could always count on it being $15. I understand why that's gotta change and all, and it's a perfectly good reason. But it's still pretty disappointing.

Just don't turn into DBH.

It's ridiculous to expect Threadless ALWAYS having their shirts as 15 bucks. It just doesn't make economic sense anymore with being printed on softer, better quality shirts and all the possible inks that each shirt might employ. As long as the princes don't soar, I'm okay with it, and so far the prices haven't done much but trickled up a few dollars. But it's not like we can't see where the extra money is going, Things change, and as long as things change and there is a good reason for it, im cool with it. the ten dollar sale is gonna be a bit more complex tho.

As for the DBH thing, I just hope Threadless doesn't turn into ALL artsy tees and disses its clever ones. I like the artsy ones, I live for the clever ones.

Oh man, it's about time! Thank you so much, that's all I can say. The few extra dollars is well worth it in my opinion. To me the pricing strategy is fair and makes perfect sense. I'll be buying more designs I love, knowing they'll be printed on a quality tee, instead of FOTL tees which are approaching the consistency of burlap and have ruined many a good design. Don't listen to the people whining about the prices, this is a big step in the right direction.

Is the baseline price really $15 if the most basic designs will always have the "plastisol and chino additive" combination?

Or is there a non-plastisol solution that could result in a $15 shirt still?

If they feel like the Selects feel, then I'm happy either way... Just keeping it honest if we won't see a $15 anymore.

The shirts are a mix from the US and Bangladesh. The hoodies, long sleeves, Custom color Select tees, and Kids/Baby items are all made in the US. Most of the short sleeve tees are made in Bangladesh. We know that overseas brings up concern of the working conditions, but we are not using sweatshops. The manufacturer we are going thru is a part of several Bangladesh labor groups like:

Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (http://www.bgmea.com) and

Worldwide Responsible Apparel Production Group (http://www.wrapapparel.org)

i think this sucks, all your shirts are much smaller now and they fit perfectly before, comfortable length and width, i've always bought your XL and now your 2XL isnt even as big as your old L, so you've really not added a 2XL you've just compensated for all your shirt sizes running smaller. Guess i will not be shopping on this site anymore, too bad cause i buy a lot of shirts on here

I'm glad to see a girly 2XL added, but with all the feedback we gave on the fit of the old shirts versus the suggested fit of the new shirts, I was hoping for something better than 1) an XL that is almost identical to the AA XL (which fits nothing like an actual extra-large girly shirt), and 2) a 2XL that is still less than 40" in the bust. I wish I could go back and tell Fatshionista and other fat fashion communities that Threadless had listened to our feedback and had a real option for bigger women, but the new girly shirt size will barely accomodate a size 14, never mind anyone bigger.

I'm bummed. I haven't bought a shirt for myself in almost a year - everything I've purchased has been for gifts because I got sick of stuffing my 38DD rack into an ill-fitting shirt.

The Faesthetic shirt I bought fits all funky after the wash. I'm sure it's the side seams that are doing it, the back billows out in sort of a cape-ish way. I think I'm going to cut the seams and restitch them with a couple inches of fabric removed on both sides. I'll upload images if it works out. If not I'll just stretch the shirt over a canvas frame and throw it up on a wall.

Because I only see difference in length.

Thanks!

Being on a budget, I really miss $15 tees... when it said girls and guys would be equal, I thought that meant girly-tees going down to $15, not guys up to $17...

I also think the whole "artists can use whatever techniques they want" idea will get canceled out when there's a price penalty.

For me, at least, if there's a design I love, I don't care about the extra added foil effect or gold shimmering ink. It's not worth an extra $9 dollars (Wizard Rock). If only there was a plain and simple option for each tee, so that those of us willing to live without wouldn't have to spend extra on features we don't care about.

With the blog interview, btw, I think $7 dollars off for sales would make more sense, since the new average is definitely not looking like a $15 tee.

/sarcasm

Very few of the designs released I would even wear, and if they're costing even more than before that just lowers the appeal for me that much more...I by no means think it is worth it to pay $15+ for a t-shirt.

All that aside, I like my Burn shirt very much.

Great choices on the sizing! XS mens is something I constantly whined about and I'm glad it's here.

On the other hand, you seemed to toss the best colors away, and went with the safe, boring, ugly, easy, ones. Instead of olive green, try AA's evergreen. Get away from the natural palette and get into jeweltones. Olive and army? What's the point?

Where's mint, teal, seafoam, lime, sangria? A rich blue/green mix color? I'm disappointed that there's no red/fuscia mix color. How about a coral? There's no pastel or forest green, just midtones. Can't we get a 50/50 grey that's solid, and not heather?

Fuschia should be redder, like my icon.

When designing a new t-shirt line, you have the great opportunity to change minds about the colors used, and it seems like you guys just did the same (safe) old thing.

Got lotsa Threadless T's @$15 and luved it. My budget didn't just go up like your prices. Why not offer more value and sell more T's. With my 50 or maybe 70 t's, I'll make do. Now I have to look around more, and certainly buy less from Threadless. Instead of two or four today, I got one at $15. Bummer! The market will speak, and you may make room for competition down at the low, more value for buck end.

I just received my first custom tee (Secret of Mensa) today. Here are my thoughts:

-The color is awesome

-The stitching is a lot neater and looks nicer

-The fit is about the same as FOTL.

-They are very thin, thinner than my AA shirts. Good thing in the summer, early fall and late spring, not a good thing the rest of the year.

-Worth $18? I am not sure yet, I need to wash it a few times.

The only thing I really don't like is the tags. I don't like having the tag sewn in and then printed on the back as well. I'd like to see the tag made a bit larger (like tags on store bought tees) with all the info on there and without the picture.

The prices are only gonna go higher now.

Soon we'll be paying for $40 shirts.

If it really costs money to do the ink, etc,

then why werent the prices of the shirts boosted up before ?

Makes you think. And its def NOT because certain shirts "need more material" or "involve more ink".

I am really really upset about this raise in prices. I feel like one of the things that Threadless was known for was its affordable prices for really cool shirts, but i honestly had no issue with the FOTL shirts and would rather have them instead of paying the extra couple dollars per shirt. A couple dollars may not seem like a lot but when ordering an average of 3 shirts or more a month it really does add up. I know personally my number of orders will decrease due to this. i guess i shall be nude again... *sigh*

Are you serious? I Do Not Buy 100% cotton! I have not bought 100% cotton in Years, because I inevitably let one slip into the drier by accident or impatience with line drying... and my lovely shirt cannot be worn. :( This is very upsetting to me because I Love the designs and the community aspect of threadless... but my building's dryer does not have a cold or low setting, and I am not shelling out more money for your raised-price shirts AND extra coins for a laundromat with cold setting. PLEASE don't do this! I'm begging you. You will lose at least one frequent customer! IF however you chose a cotton blend with 10-50% non-cotton, or preshrink the 100% cotton fabric I would pay up to $50 per shirt! 'Cause I could actually wear it more than 3 times. ...what a concept.

Please don't make them in only shrinking fabric! Please let me keep buying from you!

Also I would much prefer that they were made in America.

The way I see it your in for an over all profit loss with this move due to the sudden inflation in prices, the mystery of which size is going to fit us, the potential of supporting unethical labor practices, and the guarunteed shrinkage of your product. More fabric colors and more sizes Might let you stay even if you're lucky. Losing some customers and gaining some.

I know nothing about inking or what it costs to do these t-shirts but if it's true on what others have said, if it's always been a problem, why now? And why not then? I also had no problem with FOTL, it was snug and fit comfortably. Oh well, for every customer gained, one will be lost. squatter john: fyi none of the (previous) girly sizes even fit me, so I've been buying guys medium, which used to cost $15. Finally they now have a propper female size to fit me "girly 2XL" which is the largest female size - so yay now I can buy the feminine color option - but not if I have to buy it one size larger, 2XL is as high as girly goes. And I dont want a shirt thats too big and then let it shrink because the seams usually go wonky and who knows what happens to the print.

But everyone is not saying the same things about the shirts. Some people like the new fit and don't think it's thin at all. I guess maybe it depends where you're from. I have no desire to wear thick polyester in Summer so I think FOTL is hideous. I'm also of the opinion that 100% cotton, no matter how thin, can never be called "crappy" fabric when compared to the artificial nightmare that is polyester.

Are we all losing sight of the positive aspects of the t-shirts though?

* Colour options are now identical for guys, girls and kids. No more wishing for the other gender's "better" colour, no more selling out of the smaller guys sizes because girls don't like creme etc.

* Selects are cheaper. Notice how every blog complaining about the price "increase" is on a Select tee? And this doesn't just affect the Selects. In the past, we had to pay $25 for a gimmick like flock, superglow or even 8 colours because Selects were the only place you'd see this stuff. The new pricing structure reflects the reality of the cost of these techniques. It was in the past that we were getting "ripped off." So what if now we have to pay $19 or $21 for such things when in the past we had to pay $25?

*By opening up all these new printing techniques to all designers we get better designs.

* The most common price is still $17 which is what [thin] girls have been paying forever.

I'm really happy with the new shirts and I'm happy for those aforementioned reasons as well as I, personally, prefer the fit and fabric.

squatterjohn: 100% cotton CAN be crappy! believe me! sure you've never seen the fabric that you get around here if you buy custom printed shirts provided by small printing shops... that's almost toilet paper! cheap bastards!

but ordinary shirts around here can be as cheap as $10 (or reach $50 depending on the brand) with enough quality to last years, and always 100% cotton. Anything partially synthetic is hard to find (yay!)

I really doubt Threadless would go for crappy fabric... just haven't seen the new brand myself yet. And as long as quality is good and prices don't skyrocket, I'm fine! Paying twice as much I'd pay in a mall and for a shirt that is so exclusive, make me feel happy, may amuse others and look absolutely nothing like anything you see in the streets... that's such a bargain! =D

They updated the kit before making the switch so that designers could submit designs on the new colours, as by the time they were printed, they would possibly be on Threadless tees.

The former submission kit contained colours like Dakota Slate and did not have silver.

The whole point of buying shirts online is that they are much cheaper than what you can find in stores around the city..

I can't really agree with you there, Millax - Threadless represents individually designed, limited edition t-shirts that we, the consumers, have a vote towards printing. It's a lot more for most people than a cheaper-than-stores shirt. Besides, for the basic shirts, it's $17 instead of $15...for the guys. $2. That's really going to convince you to buy mass-produced t-shirts at the mall instead of these lovely things crafted by talented designers? I'd much rather support the artists and hell, I end up with a pretty fucking great shirt for $17.

The fruit of the loom shirts were perfect. PERFECT. Why'd you have to go and change?

I just got one of the new threadless brand tshirts, and its way too long. I checked the size chart and it says it's the same length as the old FOTL shirts, but it feels much longer. I feel like I'm almost wearing a dress in this thing. It should be at least 2 inches shorter than it is.

I'm considering returning the shirt, and possibly not buying from here any more due to this new shirt brand.

i just got some of the new style t shirts recently. I don't hate them or anything, but i do prefer the AA ones that used to be used. Wasn't so keen on the FOTL t shirts, but the AA, to me were perfect. They fit nice, and the length was great when i was wearing them with low slung jeans, they didnt hug around my fatty fatty stomach too much in that case in point either.

The new ones are ok, still fit well, and if anything are longer, alot longer, they just aren't *quite* as flattering and "i love this t shirt!" as before. The material and look around the neck looks a little cheap to me too.

I will probably continue to buy, and realise that this is the way things are now, my whining won't stop it.. but that's just my 2 cents worth.

I bought three X-Large shirts knowing they will shrink, but honestly the shirts I received felt like a medium on me! Shoddy sewing on the hems and shoddy tie-offs of the threads. I have never had such poor quality shirts before.

This has really soured my view of this site for allowing such shoddy craftsman ship to be passed on to customers.

After much apprehension regarding the new sizing, I upsized (a stab to my inner size-conscious girly self) to a large, and I'm SO glad I did!

I actually really like the new shirts and think they're a huge improvement over the AAs. These new Tees are cut longer and slimmer and have a more narrow un-ribbed collar all of which adds together to make a cleaner look.

YES, they are "thinner" fabric. But they have a nice stretch to them and they hold their shape better. And whoo! Talk about soft.

I made a crude size comparison set on flickr with a couple of new tees and my old favorite one. Hope it helps anyone with sizing issues.
