Interview by Charlie Festa

Hello there, and how are you doing today?

Hey! Not too shabby, thanks. Just finished a bunch of freelance work and for the first time in a while I've found myself with an unusual amount of free time to play with… not sure what to do with myself!

Urban Wonderland

How did you get your start in design?

As a kid, I was always into creative outlets, be it drawing, painting, music… But as I grew older I kind of lost track of where I wanted to go and what I wanted. Figured I'd aim for the creative direction I always loved and it wasn't until I submitted to Threadless and getting a lucky break that the ball really began to roll. Winning here gave me the confidence to pursue design more seriously and ever since I've been flying on the seat of my pants and haven't looked back.

SMV Collage

What inspires your work?

I think as I'm still establishing and defining my own style, my perception and critique of other styles definitely inspires me. I love checking out fantastic work being created by already established designers out there and also can't get enough of Dadaism, Art Deco, Art Nouveau and the wicked psychedelic poster art from the 60s and 70s. Music is also a huge inspiration as I find it has a major affinity with visual art, arousing emotions and images in your mind. And just personal things… friends, memories, experiences, emotions… it's kind of an extended state of consciousness.

Surfers Paradise

How does it feel to have a design selected by Threadless?

Bloody awesome… I can't help but dance around like a tipsy leprechaun who just found the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. It's such a gratifying and encouraging moment, getting official recognition from the public and peers for my own personal style. It's such a huge buzz to see someone enjoying your work enough to wear it. Gives me the boost to continue working hard at what I love.

Self-Portrait

What do you plan to spend your hard-earned cash on?
Good times, traveling and trying to sustain an ever-growing belly's love for the finer things in life… good food, good drinks, good company… my gut only consumes the first two things, obviously…
