You all gave me some great suggestions--please take a look at my new design and tell me what you think!

The pi doesn't really convey an apple. The stem and leaf alone don't do it for me. If I didn't already know this was called 'Apple Pi' I would think that it was a Chinese letter or something of that nature.
The plate could use more detail too. Maybe have a bunch of apples and line them up to make the pi symbol? If you get the chance, please critique my design |

this is a good start for an idea that benefits from simplicity. Still, the plate could be converted into a pie pan like these ones. and you might immediately get a stronger recognition.
Regarding the shape of your apple: It does currently look more like a Chinese gate than an apple and i wonder if you could approach this to be more like the cornflake that was shaped like the state of Illinois (you can find this with a google search for "cornflake shaped like Illinois") so that your shape both resembles the apple more closely AND the sign for Pi? I guess this is an argument for something that is between the subtlety of your first design and the explicit Pi shape of your apple in this one. |

what about making the color of your apple more varied? You could, rather than using a single, flat red, introduce a gradient that allows a transition of color across your apple (maybe from one red to another, maybe a richer red around the stem, maybe from a deep red to a red that is softened by yellow). Some images of apples here.
