Cool idea. Like arzie said, the concept will be stregthened if you add to the 'submerged' bit and create a really interesting upside down scene - maybe with a winding path up the mountain? Bring it life a bit more to contrast against the quiet scene above the surface.
I like the color scheme, especially how it gets darker at the bottom. How about knights swimming around, scuba style? or some kind of Neptune-esque sea king patrolling in a sea-horse drawn chariot?
thanks guys. bio-bot: love the idea of a sea king patrol!
ntths: yeah many photos of icebergs were looked at to get this going. a couple had boats crossing the icebergs path and i had to use the idea. it fits too perfectly with the hidden kingdom below.
i like the change in the boat you've made... much better!
about the dotted/striped patterns below. I don't feel the dept of the iceberg. It's a bit like spots and stains, instead of nice gradient holes and bumbs.
the picture i referred to earlier has a great rocky feel.
if you can make thát work, it'll be great i think.
thanks mtths! yah ive been working on a lot of textures to get the ice/rock to pop more. ill be working on it and have a new version up soon! thanks again for the reference!
I think this looks pretty damn good, and VERY close to submitting. I would give it 4 or 5. But if you think it needs more work, maybe something you do is play with combining line shading and half-tone shading together, or else maybe draw some manual etch marks in there for shading some of the glaciers.
I'd recommend making the towers a little different from each other in height, width, and structure. maybe put in some stone walls, cathedrals, villages, etc.
thanks guys! bright side: do you mean make the whale upside down? of does it like like it is and you would like it right side up? haha if that makes any sense.
bio-bot: yeah im going to adding more to the town/village to give more of an inhabitance to the underside kingdom
- Needs more detail. For example: more/bigger schools of fish, more buildings, more shadow & texture...
- Those patchy things on the underside look kinda weird.
- I like the idea of making the iceberg fade into the depths. You could even use a 'depth fog' to give the iceberg itself more depth; i.e. the deeper crevices/parts that are farther from the viewer fade into the fog more quickly.
I liked the way you rendered the iceberg in the first one best. Some of the textures in v4 are a bit strange. I'd simplify it and then focus on adding interesting details like the whale and fish. I'm sure you can think of other ideas: sea serpent, mermaids, squid, treasure, ect.
yeah beesknees i didnt want the water line to get jumbled up by making it irregular. only because if you saw a photo of an iceberg half above and half below water you would only see a flat water line.
blamethesuburbs: im still working on adding more into it giving it more character and life, so look out for v.5
I'm not sure I understand the inclusion of the upside-down whale. But I really like the design a lot, on the whole. I'd even get go as far as saying I would be very happy to see this get printed. It screams Threadless to me, and it's very well made.
