Haha. I clearly have more faith in this concept than anyone else at present! I've inked the Delorean. None of this is vectored still, so it remains a bit scrappy. This is only an outline, and I'm going to add a bunch of new elements in due course, but suggestions are encouraged. Thanks.

Flash remembers to the films dances and to return to the future… pleases as the advance of your illustration goes, perhaps podrias to me to apply something of color in the car…

You might need to cover up the logo on the car... but really I have no idea how copyrights work. I like it! Keep going!

Nice linework, but I wish the people in the

picture weren't just standing/sitting around.

It needs something to liven it up.

Maybe have them at war where they use crazy

stuff from the 80s as their weapons. Throwing

rubick cubes at each other. Chest plates made of

an 80s video game console. Slingshots made of

leg warmers. I'm just typing as I think so I haven't

thought through any of what I've communicated,

but the static scenario for the design makes it more

on the boring side and less on the interesting side.

fatheed - this looks great - all the elements are there -
fatheed
   fatheed on Mar 06 '07
thanks everyone. Far more positive than the 1st sub. This still has a way to go. Helo - you're right. It is missing something crucial at the moment and I've spent the last 48 hours trying to decide what it is. Still no joy - but I am going to add new elements. I'm expecting rubix cubes and b-boys to feature at some point.

Thanks Frank - I probably have been infuenced slightly by the Rockstar gods already. Lol @ hxcassandra - I actually made the phone bigger than the picture of the phone I sourced, but I may just make it even bigger for the sake of comedy. Thanks guys.

Hey fatheed. if it is ok, would you mind giving some insight into your line drawing. I apologize that this is not the correct forum to be asking but after seeing your recent designs and then the above, I was curious as to how you achieve such precision. I myself use Corel and am also new to tablets but perhaps with practice this type of drawing becomes more achievable. For example is the car above freehand and how long would it take you to render something like that.?

As for the critque, I think the composition is excellent and as others said, color will be an important factor. Lookng forward to v3 and thanks again.

Hey Sam. Thanks for taking interest in my work. Everything that you see has been hand drawn in pencil, then inked by hand with a bunch of pens of different thickness. All on A3 paper, and all of the elements were drawn seperately - so they are easily moved about. Then they are scanned in and touched up with the paint tool in photoshop to make small adjustments and give cleaner lines. After this point, I'll trace it in Illustrator to give it even cleaner, vectored lines. Hope this helps a bit.

FH. Thanks for the insight, it's interesting to hear about your technique. Your critques are always fun to follow all the way through but I always end up with questions! Also your drawing ability is excellent, especially figures, and I can't imagine how long they takes to trace. I haven't used Illustrator so I'm not sure how easy the vectors are to manipulate, but Corel is painstaking. I've always been fine drawing with pencil on paper, but since discovering Threadless, I've been really impressed with peoples ability to translate that into a digital form.

Here's hoping 'A Feast Fit For A King' get printed because I think that's my favorite of your recent deisgns.

Also where are you studying, I finished up my Vis Com degree at UCE [Birmingham] in 2004.
fatheed
   fatheed on Mar 07 '07
Thanks Sam, Illustrator is a doddle and I don't really know how to use Illustrator at all well. The vector process is really simple - it does it all for you. I'm studying Graphic Design at London Metropolitan University. Not a very glamorous institution compared to Londons University of The Arts establishments like Chelsea and LCC and St Martins, but its a good course, and those other colleges are up their own arses anyway!

Looks like I'm going to have to get me some Illustrator! Thanks again and keep up the good work.

I read that Illustrator CS2 features Live Trace, but is there something similar you can use with former CS?

When I want to vectorize something, I put my hand drawn illustration in black and white in Photoshop, then select the black and transform the selection in a path and finally export it in Illustrator... but often it doesn't look quite good, and you can't adjust the settings as Live Trace permits it...

So I always finish by doing it all with the pen tool in Illustrator... ^^

In regards to your design, waiting for V3: seems it'll be good. :)

i agree with what 'helo' says: you do need something else to make it more active. also, and this is just me, i realize few other would have a problem with it, but the girl is all passive, sitting on the car, while the guy is actually doing something. i wouldn't buy it, just because of that. but throw a little rubix cube tossing in there? hell yeah.
MyNameIsVex
MyNameIsVex on Mar 07 '07
The rubix cube came out in the 70s... But I agree, the girl should be doing something. And it needs more color!
Edword
   Edword on Mar 07 '07
The rubix cube was invented and named the magic cube in the 70's and rename rubix and was a fade in the early to mid 80's. so I think rubix cube would still work for the 80's.

MyNameIsVex on Mar 07 '07
It would work, but is not entirely accurate... She could have a my buddy doll. that would be funny.
