I plan on taking the checker board pattern out. I was going to make a quilt out of it but now I don;t think I will. This will be a lot more detailed when finished. Kinda like Wish catchers my last sub was. She will probably have more traveling companions and there will be more patterns and textures. Possibly some trees. Also some kind of bg.

I think that the bear needs at least an eye or some other face detail. i love the look of the girl. If you keep the quilt even without checkered patterns i think it needs some folds in it. I like your stuff, you are very creative and talented

okay i thought about it over hot chocolate and a cigarette and here are my thoughts...



maybe make her traveling down a pathway that winds into the distance. the pathway is lined with poeles that have lanterns on them, and she's lighting all the lanterns as she travels down the path. so all the lanterns behind her are lit up and the ones in front of her aren't yet lit. maybe make a saddlebag filled with lit lanterns, so she's pulling the lanterns out of the bag and placing them on the tops of the poles using the stick she has. i think it would look really nice if the pathway gets smaller and smaller in the distance and winds to a point. or make it end at the top of a hill that you can't see over.

anyway. looking very good so far. this is what i think would look cool, and the problem here is i don't really know how to describe this thing or what it's called, but if you put a sort of tent/carriage on top of the bear for the girl to sit in...i'm talking about the type of thing you usually see on top of elephants in the movies...does that make sense?

oh and i like this on the slate background on which it's depicted, i don't think i'd like it on a blue background, as on the image of the template shirt...



also maybe some moths would be attracted to that lantern she's carrying.

I am a stay at home mom. Not that that means I have tons of time. I do find I work more on my machine now than when I was designing pages for a newspaper before i had Em. I think its because i would come home and sitting in front of a computer was the last thing I wanted to do after doing it all day.

the bear's face looks better in version 2, having both eyes show on this one looks awkward. i think the eye needs to be larger as well. the saddlebag might look better seperated from the saddle, so that some of the bear color shows in between.

I like how this is coming out. I agree that the bears face needs more work. I also think it might be cute if they were walking on a path, but maybe not. I know you have done a lot with stars in the background but that also might work here.

agree with doing a pattern on the saddle and also with separating the saddlebag somehow. i'm stoked you're going to do the path idea, hope it turns out well. i like the boy, but for some reason it looked better without him. i also like the bears face now with both eyes...it does look a bit strange but i think it fits your style very well.

Did some more work.

I will be adding more pattern and making the ezisting ones stand out more. I need to darken the snow in the background a bit too.

now thats what im talking about. the snow flakes falling is just what it needed and that path was more then i expected. nice work :)

defniitely toog imporovements! the bears face needs a bit of something. he's half smiling, half looking like he might eat you. blanket and the girl details are great, and the addition of more lanterns is adorable to me. i agree the snow helps. i think the path ends too abruptly though.

How can I ake the path not end abruptly? Yes I will work more on the bears face. I will be working more on all the little details.

different direction maybe? have it end where the edges of the shirt end? or just have it get narrower? or go forward under the bear? just some ideas. it might only bother me.

i think the very back foot of the bear looks a bit strange. i really like the bears expression, but it seems most people don't agree so might want to change that.

oh yeah this looks alot better. i don't think you should change or add too much. only thing i see is possibly making the lantern bigger and a tad brighter.

This reminds me of Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy i.e. Iorek and Lyra. Have you read that?

Other than my nostalgic attraction to it, I like the design, especially the snow on the bear's underside, and think it really adheres to the title.

I do, however think that the bear's head is a little contorted. Though, if the ear on the far side was moved down some, so that it better corresponded w/ the other ear, my problem would disappear.

the bear's eye looks a little weird to me, mayb a little too low. also the ice on his legs makes it look like he is wearing socks or leg warmers, maybe spread it out around his body

My husband wants me to read them. Their size daunts me.



Anyway thanks for commenting and the suggestion about the ear. I will look at it again and adjust it.

I guess I can see what courtneysita is saying w/ the ice, but I think in the context it's really obvious that it is ice, not leg warmers.

I think that if you do adjust it, you might want to use the ice to help distinguish which rear leg is closer to the viewer.

I could add more snow flakes. Maybe the flakes could look more like snowflakes. I can deffinately add more flakes.

i think the bear's eye is a bit droopy/drunk look like. make it a bit more rounded. i think in terms of the "floor" it depends on what color shirt you'll use. if you did brown that would solve it. otherwise it might look too suspended and i think i'd keep the floor.

I am working on the path at the top part of the mountain.

The mountain is distracting, particularly the white outline and the girl/lamp get lost in the top...the path is good. Too much snow on bear's legs, too.

i like version 10 a lot more, the clouds connect the mountain to the picture, the mountain looks way out of play without them. I think the bear and the girl on itare perfect. Definitely your style kalien.

Wow! The Mountain is a bit hard to read, it looks as if the snow caps are being tied down by ropes that connect to the trees. I would say stick with the clouds as well, very well done :)

so if i have no mountain should i take out the trees and houses on top too? Or just make the montains snow into another clousd and keep the trees and houses.

also this version looks kinda busy compared to older ones, and personally i prefer simplicity although i'm not sure aboust most people. particularly the area under the bear looks jam packed to me.

i was thinking that this might do better if there's some sort of story being told by it. what i mean is to have it be more active, like on your wish catchers shirt the story is that the kids are catching stars (ie wishes since you can wish upon a star) and that's what gives them a personality and purpose.



on this shirt the lady looks like she's traveling, which is a pretty ordinary thing. it still looks fantastic(especially in version 6 I think), but I think that if you somehow gave her some sort of purpose in the scene it would help you out a lot, especially on this site where that's one of the things people seem to be really looking for.



just a thought...not sure what to have her doing though.

well, i like the mountain, but i liked it before the mountain too, so if its gone i'm not worried about it. the details you've added are really great, the little river and the figures being on a hill (fixes my earlier issue with the path feeling like it just ended). Are you taking out the clouds too? I like the mountain, not the clouds. Great improvements, I thought it was ready before and now i'm just more excited.

So basicaly I thought i had made the yellow color in the face and lantern lights a warmer color yelow. So i need to adjust that some more. I also plan on making the lanterns sway in alternayte directions.

I love it without the mountain.

I'm not sure I like the added lanterns at the bottom.

yep i like this one the best but i like the background colour of v10. maybe you could put in some snow or shading on the fur on the top of the bear as at the mo it blends in to the 2nd mountain v nice tho

agree with seabs. anywhere that the brown mountain color blends into the bear it looks funny, so just fix that and i think it will be more appealing. other that putting snow on top of the bear, you could also just bring the snow level of the right mountain down to a point where it intersects the bear outline. also bring the left mountain irght a bit so it doesn't stick out form the back of the bear.



i really like the shape of the mountains this time around.

and the pathway down the mountain and the houses on it add a really nice effect =) this makes me feel warm and fuzzy too!

I think this looks very nice, but I do agree that the mountains and the bear need to be seperated a bit more. I suggest adding a thin stroke around the bears outline, that is the same color purple as the shirt? This makes me warm and fuzzy too, it would be great to wear this on a snowy day, drinking some hot coco :) Hopefully they would make it a long sleeved shirt too!

the right mountain still blends into the bear, but i guess it wouldn't have the effect of snow-capped mountains if the snow came down to the top of the bear huh? unless you top the bear with a line of snow where they intersect i think that's worth a shot.

i would have the entire right mountain white, and then you could have a shaggy line where the bear starts. that would help separate them and give the bear extra texture. thats my 2 cents. also, i kinda want more detail in the bear's face, but thats not needed, just preferred.
