Here's an idea I had about composting. I'm trying to go for the stuff decomposing from top to bottom. Is it working? I've messed with the image quite a bit, and just feel like there could be something more... Also, what do you think about the title?rnrnAny feedback is much appreciated!
It's very close, I'd suggest making some of the object look more like they are inside the block. eg the banana skin and orange peel could have the top edges covered by the lightest top block.
It makes me think of Hundertwasser, if you've not seen his work, you should.
thanks. i'll look at this on a couple different shirt colors. also, cristicus, i like your idea about making the objects look more inside the block. what do you think about adding some worm tunnels?
thanks for your feedback. Funny, I was about to start a layer diagram design like this myself! This is a really great illustration. But i'd like to know how you print all these colours and gradients? If you look at Terry Fan's designs (wild jelly bears), he must get an all colour photo print done somehow..
This tee colour is good, so might as well aim it at gardeners. use the background brown colour for the divides and put that layer over the top of the image so everything is inside it.
I like the colours you used. First I need to mention that I think there needs to be a little more to your concept or make the idea bolder. As it is now what you're trying to say doesn't really come off. The thing that probably needs the most improvement is the worms. You don't really notice them. I only looked for them, cause your title has the word worms in it.
A few things you could do to design/concept:
- Make the actions (in this case eating) of the worms way more obvious to see. You could maybe do that by putting a little joke in there and make one big worm in it which crawls around the cube floors. Then you could make the worm a realistic version of the sorta like the snake as we know on the first Nokia phones. You instantly know what it's doing; going from floor to floor going downwards. You could make him crawl around in angles as the Nokia game snake, but still have the worm looking as a worm by making it's appearance perfect. You could do that by adding more detail such as the lines which show the different segments of the worm and a little highlights on it to make it look slimey.
- Or just make the worms bigger and give them mouths which look like their eating.
Though I myself prefer the snake type of worm.
Further I think the banana peel looks like it doesn't really is in those layers. Maybe have it look more flat as if it was laying on the ground and have it laying in 1 specific layer. The same counts for the yellow apple btw. In that way the banana would and the yellow apple would be more recognizable in shape too. The yellow apple could be worked out a little better. Or is that a patato???
I'd also recommend to make all of the little food elements in there about 70-80% of the size it is now, cause it would make it look more realistic and less cluttered.
I really like this, the colors are fantastic, and i like the sectioning of different depths of dirt.
I don't really know how you could improve on this, because its already really great. So at the very least heres a friendly bump, and thanks for critiquing mine.
No way! So cool! Great idea! The only thing could be to make more defined levels of decomposition, but don't know if it'd turn better.
I love the way it is, and i'm ready to 5$ it!
Fantastic design, I love how despite organic waste not really being something pretty, you've turned it into just that. Great colours, great combination of handdrawn art and geometric shapes. Submit!
Thanks guys! Think I'll do a final clean up and submit.
Since you mention it WesMoTron, this design can't be traditionally screen printed with spot colors. It'll have to be simulated process (kinda like cmyk for screen printing) because of all the colors and complexity. Does anyone know more about simulated process and if this design will present any problems for it?
