It's a jester and a monk. Capriciousness versus solemnity. I liked the placement, but I wasn't sure if it looked better on Sagestone or Natural. Any help is very welcome.

The background absolutely takes away from the overall picture. Lose it. And add some more textures and shading to the characters. They look a bit flat.

any other suggestions?

Yea ... if you really like that background, you have a few colours yet to use ... why don't you just make it all one tone and mute it (maybe a shade lighter or darker than the shirt colour).

I don't know, it does look cool where you placed it one the shirt, but doesn't seem to fit the style of your people . . .



Maybe you should just try making two different designs out of this one idea.

Dude I know! Do some kind of argyle/stained glass window background, they way it fits with both characters . . .



Does that make sense? You could even have the part behind the jester sort of flow and curve they the tips of a jester hat with little bells, but behind the monk it would be a flat stained glass window. Then it would show more of the fun/free flowing in contrast to something stiff and flat and precise.



Just make sure your background is lighter than your characters.

Like the design but do agree its a busy background, i wouldn't lose it but would play with the opacity/transparency of it so it's not quite so competitive.
