my submission for the seed science magazine loves competition. just a goofy idea dealing with the science fair projects we all had to do in middle school. of course this one is no baking soda volcano.
it's a very simple, loose design. works best on a light color--natural and ash are shown. i'm pretty happy with it at the moment, but it's late and i'm tired, so i'd like to get some feedback from you before i submit it. thanks much for your comments!
I think they could go on more colourful shirts. Light colours can be great, but those shades you've got there are the closest thing to white without being white.
the shirt colour is the big problem for me...and i understand the style of illo, but it's not one that i like (but that is my own TASTE)...the illo style is consistent and the compositing is pretty solid..if you were to put it on any different colour shirt i think you'd need an underlayed colour (white maybe?) inside the objects (kid, table etc)...
thanks for the comments, guys... i'm working on changing it so there's no outlines in the illus, so it will work on darker, colored shirts. it's going to be changing the style, though--meaning there won't be any of the pure linework. as is, do you think that's a good thing? meaning, is it just the shirt color that seems to be a bother, or is it the design itself? thanks!
same as r.o.b.o.t. the outlined illustration style isn't really my thing, though you've done a good job of it, it's just not my taste. I think what you suggested there sounds good, about filling it wil colour.
sorry, my browser screwed up and i accidently sent v3 as an swf file... heres the most recent...
here's the second round. ive changed up the illus style to blocks of solid color vs the predominantly outlined design. i think the boy looks less creepy and the design overall is solidified. it doesn't work on dark colors, but works pretty decent on medium-intensity colors, like the orange poppy, khaki and kelly green as shown. ligher colors tend to clash with the gold skin-tone. i appreciate your comments on this, thanks much!
Much better, but the orange being used for his skin color needs changing. It doesn't work for a skin color. I also like it on the background you've picked to display it on, but not the shirt colors you've picked.
here's the latest. i've simplified it by dropping the 5th color, bringing it down to 4, and set it up to work on the four shirt colors at left. i'm ready to move on, anybody have any more comments? thanks for the critiques!
oh, and on each different shirt color, only one color in the pallette would change (boy's shirt, shoes, board borders), depending on the shirt. thanks again!
