Very well done. I think the coffee bean and sugar cube (or whatever that cute is) seem a little out of place, especially the bean.

Otherwise this is one of the best first draft I've seen. You're basically ready to submit minus those minor changes. Keep in mind the deadline is coming up for the challenge so you might want to get on it really quick.

I would also really appreciate it if you could critique my first design!

And I'd like it better if the sun's rays were more equal instead of those 4 long ones on top.

Haha - I think it's cool - my own personal feedback would be to simplify those sun's rays, but they kinda work with someone surely hopped up on tons of caffeine. The sun is surely the most energized thing around.

Maybe work on the 'hands' a bit, if you're looking for something to do. Maybe make the face more feverish and obsessed with the drinks its brewing? Maybe some espresso bean asteroids in the orbits? I dunno - i think it's cool already.

yeah i agree maybe you could have them twirling around with the cups. This is a winner I think.

cute! i think maybe you should make the rays a little perkier because the sun is super caffeinated. i think you should make them less droopy because i don't really see em as bed head.

I totally understand the long rays. At first it's like - wait why are they these crazy protrusions but then you think about the character and it makes total sense.

It could just be maybe taking a bit more time to finesse those rays and hands to make some more pleasant shapes out of them. As they are it's like unedited shapes. Just pull the points a bit (done with the pen tool, right?) to make them a bit more easy on the eyes. It's looking good though!

if it's bedhead, what about adding things like some beard scruff and bags under the eyes or other things related to waking up?

The items are really nicely rendered, but I'm not digging the sun character.
