This is a rough sketch of a concept I'm working on for the Threadless Loves Lilith Fair. Any suggestions you have for adding a musical touch to the design would be welcome.

I'm also open to shirt color suggestions. I'm thinking it should be a lighter soft color shirt but have not developed the design enough to decide on what direction to go yet.

Could you maybe change the overall shape around to resemble a clef note?

I was thinking about making the flag look like a sheet of music. The clef idea is pretty good. I like how my current design is more of an "L"

a "frenchman" is ok with the idea... hé, hé, hé!

Thanks for the inspiration erelca. Your Tinker Bell illustration is great, sorry but the new designs are not as good as that one.

This got me thinking if I should attempt to Paint the design. hmmm, that takes time.

I also think that make a resemble to the clef note with the flag it would be a very nice idea, and of course, make the character look very femenine, long hair flying around or something like that.

need to decide where her hairs gonna go to. maybe letting it flow with the flag will keep the L shape. But how about making the flag-post into somteting musical? like a violin bow or a really big drumstick haha, and then keeping the flag-shape as it is.

For your hair, I would like to see it short and spiky and let the flag be was flows as to not distract from that. Hope that helps!

I'm thinking of changing up the background black to look like a concert crowd or something like that.

I think I need to add some sort of music on the flag.

It feels too flat at the moment, so I want to fix that.

I'm getting the impression that this design might be out of my range of artistic capabilities the more I work on it.

your idea of musical note on the music sheet like flag is good. maybe you can also try making the black scribble background into keys of piano in stead of a concert crowd for a simpler look :)

can also try letting the hair flow downwards touching the flag and curl upwards, something like '&' symbol.

Adding notes to the flag will definitely make the picture more lively.
I also feel the woman figure is kind of stiff. I'm not exactly sure what you can do to alleviate that. Perhaps try changing the pose a bit. Or add shading to create a little more depth.

I'm feeling like it lost a lot going from the sketch to the vector art. :\

Looks good, but I think it lost energy from the pencil sketch. Try varying the line widths, and maybe shading will help.

I agree about the transition from the sketch. Don't know where you are heading with it, but this version has a kind of clip-art quality to it. Maybe it is too clean.
How about tweaking it in a more stylistic way, 1930:s propaganda style?

I am, sort of, into propaganda myself.

Updated a lot. I am liking this more. I think I need to figure out the best solution for the flag. I was thinking about sheet music wrapping around with it but if we can come up with something better I'm open to it.

this is looking great! the line underneath the shoulder/around the arm pit seems backwards, though. the line should be coming from the arm into the shoulder, not the other way around.

Yeah looking back at the wonderful model pose that you took for me. You are right. How did I miss that. :\

I think I also need to add a shadow from the girl going across the flag in front of her on the left. That might help my light direction be more obvious. I need to count my colors so I can decide if I can add more.

making the crowd go back to grey and black would buy me 2 more colors I could use.

I think I'll try a few options on this before the submission date, but probably not until Saturday night, so any additional suggestions get them to me.

I like the current version.

Keep the crowd blue. It starts to look a little too METAL with a dark colored crowd. The blue feel smore Lillith.

the only thing im not feeling is the 6 lines shooting out?
i just dont like the 2 white ones i think it makes them stickout and it draws my eye away from your design.
doesnt seem to fit to me.
maybe if you make them dark red like you did the bottom 2?

really close i think

at v3 it looks like the short stripes come from the microphone (resembling speed or sound). in this version they stand alone. kinda liked it interacted with the micophone (how about notes?)
i like the texture on the scarf, but rework te shadow of her like it fits more. the shade is a bit to clean imo. (it also is the same color as the darker red in front. i would make the end of the scarf a lot lighter, then she will pop out more.
