I think I like the drawing, but I'm not sure about the colours. Any critiques, opinions, or otherwise would be welcome!

I really like the illustration and the muted colors. Mostly praise, just one critique...her right hand doesn't seem quite right...otherwise, great work.

So I was an idiot and thought I could print it on Lime, but it would seem I can't. I figure I'll include Sagestone and Khaki in my actual submission.

Is it supposed to be the character created by Shakespeare? If so, I wish there was something I could distinguish about her. As is, it's good though.

Well, Ophelia was from the play Hamlet; she went crazy, wove garlands of flowers, and committed suicide by drowning in a river. Her garland and surrounding flowers and river refer to the story, and her pose and surroundings refer to the millions of paintings that the Pre-Raphaelites made of her. She's not really a major character though, so I'm not sure what other identifying features I could add...but this is how she's typically portrayed.

I kind of like it. I'd put some flowers floating in the water to reference the Ophelia thing, and make the square have a bigger white outline, and make it more paper-y looking, with softer edges and maybe small tears or folds at the corners. And her arms need a little work - they seem kind of long.

i like it.... maybe later you could do an Oberson/Puck shirt?

Hmm I'm really feeling that you should try introducing one more character to the illustration - whether it's in the foreground or background makes no difference. Try it?

Band Geek- Ooh, good idea! I never thought of that. I'm worried that would be too distracting if I put it in the foreground, though, plus I can't really imagine what character to put in (since she's alone in that scene). Any ideas, anyone?

You could use any one subject and put it in there multiple times if you concealed it within the background. Just pull a character from the meaning the scene impresses upon you.

Her arms look kinda lop-sided to me. Like her left arm is petite and her right is way bigger. Unless it has something to do with the literature in which case I'm just an idiot. Oh yeah, good idea with the adding a subject.. a small subject, small animal or maybe just some independent rocks or flowers? Beautiful work.

Let's see...I could include a child, a young shepherd, on the bridge behind her. There's a bit of a negative space there that could do with some filling, and I do like the poetic quality of having someone witness her tragic end. Also, I'll definitely fix the arm to make them more even. New version, coming right up!

Oh, and are her breasts really detracting from the design? If so I certainly could change them, but I did draw them like that on purpose; the lady's crazy and about to kill herself, I figured it would make sense to go for the sickly heroin-chic look. Also, it makes her more childlike, which adds to her innocence and increases the tragedy of her death.

the bridge looks weird

um.... lets see, the breasts are definitely funky, please fix it :) and the nose is kind wierd too, i dunno, kinda big, or maybe the line for the nose is just a little to thick, anyways, i love the colors of this and the way you did the grass and the hair, um i kinda wish it had more than just the person etc. but something to make it less square like some sort of swirl line things, maybe to represent wind or something, idunno its just kinda boxy

Love the out of the frame effect. Maybe put in some old style text to look like she's walking out of a books illustration.

Oh, and if it was flipped she could be resting her hand steadying herself on a big capital letter at the start of the page followed by some Shakespeare filler.

The right hand looks lost reaching out for nothing. If I remember this right she has a beautiful rant involving dead violets. Have her gripping a handfull of violets clumped together, crushed and twisted in her hand with a petal or two falling towards the water. Putting in some violets might add a sort of "red rose from Shindler's list" kind of effect against the muted colors of the rest of the piece. Also, the big eyes and small mouth make her look a little too demure. This scene represents her rejection of passive longing in a crazed and passionate leap away from self restraint. Put a little fire in her eyes. The doe-like features diminish her jaw-line making her look weak. I agree with above that her breasts should look better. She's a young woman in the play and has too rapid a descent into madness to give her that heroin-chic look. Making her any less than beautiful in every way undermines the true madnes in Hamlet for having forsaken her. Sorry, if I went overboard on the critique. Ophelia's one of my favorite characters in literature. Good luck with this.

Your design is excellent and almost ready for submission. The breasts are definitely wrong.

I tried incorporating most of the suggestions mentioned. Changes made to her arm and breasts, a small character has been added in the background, an now she's holding flowers. Better now, or worse?

Oh, and I fixed the bridge a bit.

An idea has just occured to me. From the viewer prspective the bottom of the bridge would be imposible to see, you would only be able to see the side of the bridge.

Look up Monet's Waterlilies...you'll see a bridge

P.S....The dropping of flowers by Ophelia into the river is a master stroke

I like the flowers, but the figure in the background seems a bit unnecessary. Aside from that though, it's definitely submission-worthy.
