When meeting new people, you should try to connect with them by finding common interests. Everyone likes puppies!
(I tried to submit this for the Gmail Connect contest, and got rejected for not fitting the theme. *sigh* Oh well, maybe I can get feedback on both the design itself and whether you think it fits the theme?)
I like the way his tail flows into the circle where they are standing...I'm not sure if it fits in the theme, the descriptions on the themes are sometimes nebulous! I guess my first thought is since it's gmail CONNECT that it has to be more internet related? But just like the Sharks and Cornelius contests, they are not well defined as to specifics and you see a wide variety of submissions, some of which are remotely connected it seems... anyway, this probably isn't any helpful insight:)
As for the design, I like it but I think it had to grow on me! I'm still confused on Threadless as to when it's OK to use text! So many people always say "lose the text" so I avoid it, then on some of my designs they say it should have text! Go figure...
I think yours needs the text to work...is there any way to make the little barks more prominent or in some kind of funky font? Other than that I don't know what to suggest...I like their expressions!
Yeah, this is a weird one for me. I kind of want it to combine aspects of cartooning and collage, but I'm having trouble translating that visually. I have a feeling it'll be eliminated on the first day because the style is so weird, but I like it so I want to do this anyway.
If anyone has suggestions on how to make this more voter-friendly, I'm all ears.
don't know about this idea...but...what if the dog on the left is clutching an alligator skinned bag? not sure if this would detract from her "innocence" or "appalled-ness", but maybe it would then be a play on what's worse! if you make a 3D dog coming out of the coat, perhaps just one would do. i think drawing that would be a challenge, not sure how i'd do it to make it read right...but...i guess perhaps if you did the 3D dog(s) more realistic somehow but left the rest stylized as you have it, it might add to the humor and make it look more alive??? not sure...
I definitely like the idea of an alligator skinned bag. Right now I'm picturing both characters passing each other in the street, muttering to themselves "I am a good person, I am a good person..." Upon spotting each other's accessories, they each scream murderer at each other.
the green works for the alligator itself, but not for the background maybe? idk, the expressions are priceless! my other idea is to take the green out of the coat (doesn't fit with puppies anyways) and maybe use a lighter color to outline the pups which would help the coat become the dominant visual. just ideas, just ideas.
i really like it although the circle under the character's bugs me. it sort of gets lost and follows the curve of the alligator tail. you don't have to understand what that means just know it's annoying. so maybe make it bigger, smaller or take it out. also, i wish the type didn't have a drop shadow. it looks a little set off from the rest of the design.
the concept is really cute. i agree with heyhey that 3D puppies would be really awesome, and i like the alligator skinned bag idea for the dog. i'd also like to see a different color scheme. the green seems to strong and dark, and nothing seems to pop off enough. i think a brighter pink might help.
i definitly think you should have the dogs coming out 3d style... i am not real fond of the alligators hair. the alligator is suppose to be fancy like right? the hair looks more old lady like. but thats just my opinion. how about straight hair, that bobs at the shoulders... another suggestion is to ad a little more detail to the alligator. and i dont want to be giving too many suggestions so you can disregard what you want. but id like it better if the dog didnt have the little lines all over... its a bit distracting... :) hope this all helps...
