I think you could make the match boxes a little clearer. Like maybe re-do it at another angle so you can see more matches poking out. I got the idea right away, but it took me a second to get that it was a matchbox.
Other than that I really like the idea (very funny), and I think the shirt color suits it. Please comment on mine when you have the time, I'd really appreciate it: http://www.threadless.com/critique/58860/Rainy_Days |

shadows look fine, the beak's color on the poster looks too much like the poster color. Otherwise looks great!

Did some very minor changes..
|
|
I think it's really cute, but I think the bird on the painting needs some work - maybe the wings should be more precise, more "feathery"....
|
|
homemadeheroes on Dec 26 '09
I think the matchbox is a lot better now, but what's been throwing me off is the part where you strike the matches. I like the texture you put on it, but the dots make me think that I'm looking at the bottom of the matchsticks.
As opposed to having dots on that part, make a couple scratch lines to show that matches have been struck there before. It might make it look more like a match box. Make it a little taller too. Also as one last suggestion, I think it would be kinda funny if you had the bird running around on fire on the back of the shirt. |

It just occurred to me, but have you tried making the poster of the phoenix bigger? That might help it a lot. |

tippycal on Dec 27 '09
hahaha..this is cute.
Anyway, maybe you may add a tape or something that makes the poster stick to the wall so that it doesn't look like it's floating. :) |

|

last:
(a) bigger placement on a tee (b) the two matches that are out of the box are too close together and the shadow below it should not necessarily be a circle *although it's also my habit to put circles as shadows..hehe* & it's ready for a sub :) |

I'm not sure about the gray eyes, they don't really work with the other colors. You might be able to use the blue background instead of the gray. I also think you need more obvious flames on the phoenix and the ash pile.

i used grey for the eyes cause its sorta neutral.. the colour of the shadows, lines and stuff will vary together with the shirts colour. |

The head part looks kinda weird dont you think..

hipbopp on Dec 27 '09
Very cool concept. I think your earlier versions were better as far as the flames go. For this design it looks better when the flames are a bit larger. Also, I think the phoenix could use a tail off to the right of the legs. Keep at it.

A more simplified version of the flames..
|
|
hm087ster on Dec 29 '09
Have the flames going up and off the outstretched wings as you have done with the flames under the tail
|
|
Fujiapple on Dec 29 '09
As in like V8, but tidy it up a lil ?
|
|
hm087ster on Dec 29 '09
Version 8's doesn't look like flames. Something like that, though. yes..
|
|
I like the idea but I think the block of color from the paper on the wall is distracting. What if it was just a drawing on the wall that he made. I think larger flames going up would be interesting too.
Please take a look at my design and let me know what you think: Never Ending Flight |

If you are not gonna put anything els e in the wall, get rid of them and place the poster against a pole or a single wall.
You have a great idea going here but the little chicken needs some work. How about: Phoenix are made not born for the title |
|
Fujiapple on Dec 29 '09
walls as in those lines ? i drew those lines for perspective..not needed ?
Erm what sort of work for the lil chicken.. owh and its kinda like the chicken will burn itself cause its not born to be a pheonix..meaning like the dream will not come true sort of thing.. |

Chick aspiring to be the Phoenix, haha! I love the contrast of the super cute and the dark side. Self-immolation, suicide by fire, rising from the dead, etc.
I think the design needs to be much bigger on the tee, not so teeny tiny and a classic center placement might work best. The perspective lines are OK but maybe they and the shadow colors could be a shade or two lighter. The chick's eye seems off, could be a bit higher, more focused on the picture. You might try the Phoenix poster background in a shade of the tee color with a bit darker shade/shadow behind it to better integrate the design with the tee. Anyway, very cool idea, should do well in scoring imo =] As far as a title maybe, "Phoenix Fixation", "Chicken Rising", or my favorite, "Bar-B-Que" Haha! |
|
Fujiapple on Dec 29 '09
wow nice input..
agree with the posters colour lol and thanks for the titles, nice vocab also, should i remove the corner placement option and just use center placing..i personally like center too |
|
ferfo on Dec 29 '09
also, when submitting, put your design on a real shirt template, not that ugly shirt outline.
|
|
I personally like my tees to be seen, so I'm way against any designs that disappear into the natural wrinkles that occur when a tee hits the waist line.
You might also think about downloading the free flash template Manos generously put up for everyone's use here so you can feature your design close up on the first slide and see the tee placement on the second. I prefer the old template without the pop up buttons. Maybe just a luck kind of thing because I got printed twice using it, superstition I guess :p |
|
Fujiapple on Dec 29 '09
thanks quister for the link, and thanks Manos for the template...
and yea ferfo will heed your advice |

|
homemadeheroes on Dec 30 '09
It's looking great, but I liked it better when the poster was that cream yellow kind of colour. Now it just kind of blends in with the t-shirt, which will look bad from a distance.
I say switch back to the old poster colour, and if you need to cut down on a colour -- get rid of the medium grey you're using for the eyes. I don't see that being used anywhere else important, and you can replace the grey with the dark blue you're using. I like the brown on top of the matchbox though, that brought it out more. |
|
Fujiapple on Dec 30 '09
Hurm so now there are two options
1) darker poster 2) change back to the previous versions colour (yellow) |
|
Pyros82 on Dec 30 '09
I'm not sure how fast one can really understand that the bird in the poster is a pheonix. I'd expect it to be much more flamed.

yeah this design is cute and bad, in a good way though, i like that ii can get the joke with mininal effort and i thing you r illustrating is just fine the way it is. im not going to shower you with ideas here because i think that you pretty much have the nuts here, so the t shirt color will be the hardest part. you should think aboutif you want the image seperate, meaning the room is a diferent color than the t shirt or if you want it to match, which imo would be your best bet, id go with the baby blue here, but dont take my word for it, wait for more responses before yousub.

This looks good to me. My only suggestion would be to change the match box shadow. The chick shadow doesn't bother me because of the giant circle head but the box shouldn't have an oval shadow.
