For the innovation challenge, I was thinking: innovation lightens and empoweres the world and our life in it. But innovation is looking into solutions to global problems aswell, like global warming. And suddenly there was my Life Bulb!



Please give me your feedback on this one. I'm quite satisfied as it is, but I'm convinced I can do better! Thanks guys ;)

Well, I'm not really mad about the colours... especially the fluo green... Then, I think it would be better if the light bulb was not a vectorized picture... Even if it's vector, it seems pixellated... Try to use the pen tool...

Hang on, Fotologica, this is a good idea you had but I'd prefer it with more 'manual' work and not 'only vectorized' work...

I'm not to sure about the colors... that green is a bit much. Maybe play around with the pallete a bit. I agree that its a little pixellated but that is easily fixed. Great idea though.

Have been playing with the palette (a lot). I actually think these colors look pretty cool and clearly stand out. Got rid of the pixellation, now the bulb is a lot smoother. And for those of you who pay attention, got the globe from a different angle, looked better to me like this.

The colors are great, what bothers me is the mix of styles: halftone, drop shadow, live trace... unnecessary and doesn't feel like a unified design.

Right now I'm not so sure what I was thinking when I added them into the mix. I wanted to emphasize power, but looking back at it I actually feel that the design is maybe more powerfull without them. Getting rid of them right now.

This is REALLY, really cool!



However, the yellow and the red are a little TOO much of a contrast. My suggestion: darken the red you are using where it is, use that red to fill in the continents (so that the bulb is all one colour, lightly shaded like it is in the screw-in part). That will contrast nicely against the yellow halftone-background.



Also, if ever a design begged to have glow ink, it's this one. I'd suggest doing the white in glow if it's possible (not sure about printing process for glow ink)... but it would be amazing if the light bulb glowed independent from the design on its own.



Also, one last thing: try keeping the continents entirely inside the lightbulb outline... I think it would make the concept more fluid.



Suggestions aside - lovely concept! The execution is *almost* there. I love it.



As for your lightning bolts - try using those for colour representation (am I saying this right? I mean to show how many colours are in your design) in your end presentation, only smaller. I always give extra mental points when I see ink colours presented creatively. :)

i think the red compeats with the "earth" idea, it takes alot of attention and then the erath is less noticeable, i'de try to see how it looks without the red, maybe a black or gray or anything "quiet" that'll make the yellow pop out

cool :) maybe apply halftone shading to the other rendered parts of the bulb socket?

I like it, though make the bulb more conceptual and less real-like

It's a good concept, but mixing the realistic bulb with a falt-shaded illustration of the Earth looks bad. Try making the globeness look like it's really part of the bulb. I'm not expert at colors so I won't say anything about that :)

So I had a lot of different suggestions, just tried to make the best of it. Most of the suggestions had somthing to do with a combination of styles, with a messy result: the design didn't seem to be a whole. So I remade it in a single style: all color variations are achieved by halftones. To integrate the world map even more into the bulb, I've lit the light and let it shine through, by using halftones too.

smaller halftone for the background... like... leave the size of the glow where it is, but run a smaller halftone filter

Oh man, this is getting REALLY good. I miss the components inside the lightbulb, however.

Beautiful concept! I love it!! I like the little lightning bolts on the left haha! But I don't know how that would fit into the actual shirt! Since it's a "life bulb", I think it would look cooler if the design was placed right on top of the heart! What do you think?Haha!! This is really great! I'd buy this shirt definitely :)!

If not on the heart, at least on the middle of the chest area ! I figured if it's too much on the side, it would ruin the glow around it a little! i really love this design!!

Thanks ellygeh for you comments. However the bulb / glow actually is in the middle of the shirt, only the socket isn't because of a slight rotation.

I do agree that pushing it more to the side does have a negative effect on the glow, so therefore I've kept it in the middle.

I do like the lightning bolts myself, but I couldn't find a way to integrate them in the design without it being 'too much'! So they are still here, but just to demonstrate the colors used in the design :)

I think its ready to be sub'd, the one thing I'm curious about is if another color besides red would work better on the bottom of the life bulb.

This is great, I think you've done a wonderful job. My only suggestion before you submit is, like mloring said, consider a different color for the bottom of the bulb. It may draw too much attention as red. Maybe something more subdued like a rutsy gray?

I have been puzzling with many colors, including several blues and greyscales, but the red still works the best on this design, I guess that is because it is a 'natural extraction' of the orange and yellow palette. Took ellygeh's advice to scale the design a little bit down on the shirt and place is slightly higher.
