Several of my friends thought it was funny. I wanted to get a general opinion of if it would be too offensive. I assumed so, but thought I'd see what people thought overall. It's kind of satirizing the stereotype, ya know? Blowing it up so much that it's absurd and one can't help but laugh at stupid stereotypes. No different than the work of comedians like Dave Chappelle, really.

Don't white people like watermelon in America? Of all the silly things I've discovered are politically incorrect these past few weeks, that seems the most absurd. Everyone loves watermelon!

Yeah, everyone loves watermelon, but that's one thing that makes it a stupid stereotype. Idk, I tend to be fairly satirical of things like silly stereotypes. I also like seeing how close to "crossing the line" I can get without going over. It would appear, however, that I may have tripped and fallen across the line this time.

Btw, I came up with this idea from Google. When you start to search something like "why do white people..." several search suggestions pop up.
Upon typing "why do black people love..." three of the top things that come up are "...love fried chicken," "...love watermelon," and "...love grape soda." Seriously. Go Google it yourself. |

It's soooo way off the mark it's unreal! I think it's a terrible idea & a really bad generalisation of 'people' (black/white/asian who cares were all the same) full stop. Why not cartoonise some chopsticks? Will Chinese people automatically like you? Or a nice Turkish kebab? On second thoughts, theres a better idea right there! A cartoon kebab with 'Pissed people like me' written above it... |

You could save yourself a lot of bother by not subbing it, but it'll get a lot of comments and controversy which isn't always a bad thing. I don't have much of problem with it, really. There's a "Stuff white people like" blog and we all laugh along with that.
The text is whack but the characters are pretty fun. Also the chicken leg bone looks like a pair of balls. |

You have talent in the drawing arena. Get out of the muddy waters of stereotypes and you'll do just fine here. If your friends think it's fun, get an account on Cafe Press and print those for them. This type of design just doesn't really work on here.

Of the other things I'm working on this was definitely the edgiest. I hope I haven't gone and tainted myself by this and that you'll still give my other designs a look. |

^I wish I could just submit this to t-shirt hell, but they just pay $500 for a t-shirt idea they use. Different than places like Threadless that pay $2,500 for a design...

I think you could get away with the subliminally racist message if you lose the text. The characters are cute, and it makes it less of a statement that can be misinterpreted. Honestly, I think if you pull out the text black folk would like the shirt too. ;)

I think if you lose the text, and keep the characters, change the title....you MIGHT be okay. I have a major sense of humor about this kind of thing, however, the problem with ideas like this is that the wrong white person is gonna get their hands on this if you are so lucky to be printed, and it's going to be used for negativity whether or not you meant it that way.

Biggest concern so far is color scheme, especially with shoes and purple drank guy. Also, I don't think I love this type face. Also concerning type, should it be a solid color like this or an outline. Black and white or something else?
