I think it's all right but there is a sense of "been there, done that", it may be a bit more memorable if it was more realistic, as in what would it really look like if it were raining cats and dogs?

I actually really like the idea ad execution of this.



I like that the dogs and cats are spread throughout the shirt like a pattern.. but there needs to be an emphasis on the people.



I was thinking that enlarging them to the point where maybe they fill up the entire bottom left corner might add a nice bit of Asymmetry that will create emphasis.



Also maybe play around with the colors. I like the earthy tones and monotone theme, but on the brown the figures are almost lost.



Keep going and this will be and awesome print!

I agree with Lmo6, the people are way to small, you should make them larger, now they`re just blending in with the animals. Maybe change up the colours a bit? :) But its a cool concept.

It's spread out too much, doesn't look like they're really falling. Perhaps a few motion lines above each of them would give that impression.

I agree with disguntled pacifist, i think it would be alot more appealing as an illustration instead of just a pattern.

I agree with disguntled pacifist as well. If you made it into a real illustration it would turn a cliche statement into something interesting. It would be pretty horrific if it rained cats and dogs. Those people wouldn't be walking, they'd be running for their lives!!!!

Dog and cat carcasses would be littering the street with sickening thuds and yelps oh the horror. I think you get the picture:)

I think this is a good illustration. I haven't been around threadless a terribly long time, so I don't know if anyone else has tried illustrating this saying. I think it'd be cool to have the rain cover the whole front. or at least have it start from the top of the shoulders.

I was actually thinking of extending the rain lines onto the sholders but I'm not sure how far I can go.

I assume the 15" x 20" is a guideline, right?

heh I think it's a cute idea, and I like the execution... really not sold on the colors though. I'd go for dark gray for the background and throw in hints of blue somewherez.



I'm also not mad about your placement, because the rain ends up kinda square shaped. I'd make a soft selection on some part of the tee and have the image there, as opposed to all over.

No the puddle is not really helping is it.

I am currenetly working on a version where the rain covers most of the shirt and goes around the back as well. I don't think rain on the sleeves would look very good, so I guess they would have to be left out.



My english is failing me in Celandinestern's post. What does "soft selection" mean?

I like the rain lines - maybe they should be diagonal though ?

hmmm... maybe.

I will do some experimentation with that.

I like the vertical, but think they should be a little more broken, a little less connected. Also, if there was very heavy rain, i think there would be much more evidence of this in the puddle, but if you tried to do that it might distract from the overall image, so maybe ditch the puddle.

my suggestions are: make the rain in diagonal lines, i would love to see this in shades of blue (i easily associate it more to rain), i would love to see some interaction of the people with the "rain" either some scared silhouette covering the head or a small hitting the tip of the umbrella.. hope this helps

Ok. These are the new hippie style colors I'm working with.

It is a four color print. (I accidentally added the background color)

It is not anywhere near finished. I think I'm going to add more animals, experiment with diagonal rain, add a back print etc.

There is also a blue scale color test, as you might have noticed.

I like the blue one

The blue is just a blue version of the brown v2, at the moment.

Good concept, but I'm not sure about the execution. Colorful silhouettes seem a bit uninspired. I really REALLY like the blue one. Perhaps some shading will help your characters.



I also really like the rain splashes. Try to add some more of that.

I like the blue one too. I think you could improve the design further still by altering the rain. Personally I think it'd be better if you represented it with droplets instead of vertical lines. I think using droplets would sit better with the silhouettes.

ooo the colors are getting interesting!! will be fun to see it with diagonal rain.



oh and also, you guessed the score on my sharkenflies (here) but your guess is the same as one made before - you can come and make a new one if you like :) There's a list of all the used up guesses at the beginning of the blog.

the rain looks realy good on blue one, maybe cause there's not too much of it and it's not in different colours, just in different blues.. the grey one needs work with rain, try to change it as you wanted, and maybe some change of colors, the whole gray thing is so sad.. :))

The rain is exactly the same pattern on the blue and the gray version, only different colors. I think the placement view was a mistake. It makes it look horribly busy. A design close-up will be up this afternoon (by the time you people get out of bed).



The thing about the gray background is that this is the only genuine heavy rain color in there. The weather is usually kind of dull when it rains.

Hmm, the rain doesn't look like rain really, it looks like stitch lines. It needs a more hand-drawn feel.



The Tin Man's Broken Heart

The lines are not supposed to look like real rain. More a pattern reminding of rain motion. Just like the expression "raining cats and dogs" does not mean real pets falling from the sky.

The idea is more clear in the blue version.

I'd say that the blue is working great. if use use the other one, You'd have to adjust the colours, cause they don't mesh too well together.
