just my rough, but the basic idea is a gun blowing smoke backwards into the user's face

Hence the gun name blow back

add a silhouette of the face to make it more clear. put in a hand (a silhouette as well?) on the gun, too, maybe?

Adding a hand might help. Maybe make the gun larger, it's a little on the small side. As for the smoke, have some kind of design appear in it. Or at least make it more free flowing.

Yeah the gun looks more like it just fired and not part of the smoke, and I'll give the figurative element a try, though I may just leave it with bullets flying backwards

I like the concept.
