Planets need some love too.

Bio-bot 9000 on Aug 08 '09
great idea, but the sign should look hand- drawn, and not be so big and square. the whole design is a bit overwhelmingly large.
Jayjay1122 on Aug 08 '09
Planets need some love too.
In this version, I made the sign smaller, made it less square, and made the sign text look hand-drawn. I also made the entire design a bit smaller on the shirt. Please let me know if you have any more suggestions. |
Jayjay1122 on Aug 08 '09
Oops. I didn't intend the background to become darker on this one. Oh well.
Libster on Aug 08 '09
I actually like the background better in this version, but I don't really like the weird smudgey bits sticking out past the edges of the planet. Other than that, very cute.
Mind checking mine out? http://www.threadless.com/critique/49999/Belly_Button |
Jayjay1122 on Aug 08 '09
Yeah, that smudgy part is supposed to blend in with the background. For some reason, Fireworks changed the background color when I exported it, so that's why it looks like it's sticking out.
i like it, i think it needs to be simplified a bit though...like, not so many color changes on the planet and stuff...maybe just like two colors and one is a shadow....might make it pop...cool though.
Jayjay1122 on Aug 08 '09
Alright. Do you think a radial gradient would look good?

I think your planet needs some more character, but i love the concept!
Jayjay1122 on Aug 09 '09
Planets need some love too.
In this version, I made the mouth slightly more open to add character and simplified the colors on the planet's body to make it pop. I also made the background darker (on purpose this time.) All suggestions are welcome. :) |

Love the idea and presentation. I think the arms need a little work! Perhaps shape them a bit so they aren't just straight lines. Unless that's the look you're going for! I like what you have going on here.
Check out mine? http://www.threadless.com/critique/50226/Children_make_the_world |
Jayjay1122 on Aug 09 '09
Yeah, I'll work on the arms. Watch for Version 4!
I'm thinking of possibly replacing the text on the sign with something else, and renaming the piece. Do you have any ideas for something related to planets and space that would be good for this design? |
Crays on Aug 09 '09
I think you can give the planet some land or continent to look more planet-ish. Also try giving the overall picture an outline ? :)
embark on Aug 09 '09
I quite like what the sign says, but if you can come up with something that you think is even better that would be awesome!
Libster on Aug 09 '09
Maybe make the arms the same colour as the planet.
KittyCatRap on Aug 09 '09
Cute! I like the star background. I'm excited to see version 4!
I'd love your feedback on my design! |
isawa on Aug 09 '09
If it is universal health care, you could ad some more aspects of the universe with the planet. Only one protester / sign waiver? If he is advocating something, he should have more universal elements with him.
suitandty on Aug 09 '09
I agree with Isawa, this needs something to make more "universal." Other planets in the background or something. Also The arms get lost in the black, I'd consider outlining them or changing the color. Maybe the text can have a more handwritten feel to it, I've gotten flack before for using common type faces. Otherwise it's a funny concept.
Jayjay1122 on Aug 09 '09
Alright, thanks for all the feedback. I'll work on those suggestions. :)
Sigure on Aug 09 '09
I love the eyes and the mouth. They look great. Arms do look a bit awkward. Maybe add a few more objects other than stars? A sun in the background? Or a planet or two?
Also. Care to critique mine? http://www.threadless.com/critique/50406/Gaurdian |
Bio-bot 9000 on Aug 09 '09
the text on the sign still looks too thin and typed. it should be bold! Like, written with a thick poster marker.
I like the shading better in the earlier versions, but it still needs work. The gradient looks too "computery". |
LarraganArt on Aug 09 '09
yeah. there's some more work to be done on this. Look for a different font (go to 1001fonts.com or dafont.com) for the sign. The design for space if fine. Definitely work on the arms....make them more thicker and change up the color so it won't get lost with the space background. And even though that the planet is meant to be earth, add some more characteristics that make earth be planet earth. Don't change the face though. It's good as is unless the changes will force you to change the face.
Go on brother! BTW, thanks for the critique on my design. |
Jayjay1122 on Aug 09 '09
Actually, that planet is supposed to just be a generic planet, not Earth. Hmm. Maybe I should change the color or something, so people don't get confused?
I've fixed the arms, and am now working on adding more planets/galaxies in the background. I'll try to finish and upload version 4 by the end of today, since my school starts tomorrow. |
Jayjay1122 on Aug 09 '09
VERSION 4!
- I fixed the arms. I made them more round on the sides, and recolored them so they stand out. - I re-did the text on the sign, so it looks more bold and marker-ish. I also put "universal" in all caps for emphasis. - I added a couple more planets. I also made the design larger (15" x 20") in Photoshop, which is why the planet(s) look smaller in this version. Don't worry though, they're actually the same size on the tee. I finally figured out how to use the Flash template. Lol. The first slide is the full image, the second slide is a zoomed-in view, and the third slide is the tee design. I'd love some more feedback from you guys! |
Jennifer_Skiba on Aug 09 '09
One of them needs rings and a moon maybe?
Fun stuff though love it |
craiggem on Aug 09 '09
I agree - I think that one of the planets in the back needs to be made a titch more unique. (I'm thinking rings.)
biocraft on Aug 10 '09
I wonder if you made the planets somewhat "ill"? Like maybe bandaging on one, etc.? cute idea!
Jayjay1122 on Aug 10 '09
Yeah, I'll make the orange one have a bandage, and the yellowish one have rings. I've got school, so I'll probably upload it when I have time on the weekend.
subgenuis on Aug 28 '09
rings, and little child sized moons.
Jayjay1122 on Aug 30 '09
Planets need some love too.
In this version, I added a band-aid on the orange planet, and a moon on the yellow planet. Sorry it took so long, I've been busy with school. |
Jayjay1122 on Aug 30 '09
All suggestions are welcome, so please comment!
this has come a long way! i love it. is the blue planet, just any planet or could it be Earth? love the additions of the other planets. what if you add meteors or asteroids?
if you have time. please comment and score my designs: Chaos On The Brink of Collapse Hot! thanks in advance, i appreciate it! |
Jayjay1122 on Sep 03 '09
The blue planet is supposed to be a generic planet, not a specific one.
And thanks for the feedback! |
Smokingornon on Sep 03 '09
IT feels a little bit stark to me. Maybe kick it up a notch. Try galaxies holding the signs?
Jayjay1122 on Sep 03 '09
I'm not quite sure what you mean by stark. Are there too few planets?
sbelleque on Sep 03 '09
Maybe one needs to look sick or injured.
Frame on Sep 03 '09
I Love it. I might remove the gradient from the picket sign, but other than that I'm not sure what I would add or change. Maybe go with Smokingornon's idea and toss in a galaxy to mix it up a bit?
isawa on Sep 03 '09
I recommended adding some more planets awhile back. I like the little moon addition too : ) I feel the spacing is appropriate, since they are planets. Could you try adding a ring to one? Some other elements like asteroids may be nice, or try searching "objects" or "things" "in space" on google and see what you find!
If you want to go a totally different route, then go with the galaxy one. They would be a good deal of work each, but the result may be pretty cool. Please comment on my critique. |
curtisblackwell on Sep 03 '09
is that a band-aid on the red planet? i thought it was a shine at first.
i think the stars could use some work. i would suggest looking at these. though it would be a completely different style if you went that direction. it's just the approach i would've taken. i find this style much more appealing. thanks for the tips on mine! |
Jayjay1122 on Sep 04 '09
Yeah, that's a band-aid. I'll try to make that more clear.
I think I like the stars the way they are. I don't want it to look too realistic. I'll add more planets and comets and asteroids and whatnot for the next version. |
Michaelhlee on Sep 04 '09
It has definitely come a long way from v1. I really like it. I can see that you are already thinking about adding more elements, I think that a shooting star would really help it.
nerina on Sep 04 '09
I like the additions on the planets, and I agree with another suggestion that they should look more injured or sick.
I don't know if it goes into your concept, but it seems that this could be a planet demonstration, with more planets, more posters, and angrier faces I would like to see that :) Thanks for your comment :) |
thx for your comment on mine. i can't make the sign whte since i'm already using 8 colors. but i personally don't think it looks that bad. for the next version i'll put it on an actual shirt and i think you'll agree with me that it doesn't really matter ;)
now for yours: i like your design a lot - especially the simple but very funny faces of the planets - and in my oppinion it's ready to submit. but since everybody else here would like some more objects on it i think you should try what they suggested. i really like your idea and style and i think the chances are good that this gets printed! check out mine, too |
Jayjay1122 on Sep 04 '09
Ahhhh crap. I just realized I'm way past the color limit on my design. I'll have to do some serious work to fix that.
I'm still planning to add in more planets and asteroids/meteors, though. I'll just have to figure out how to make it all fit in the 8-color limit. |
hotspot on Sep 06 '09
hmm maybe an idea to make the little stars also little planets?
Pattybeetle on Sep 07 '09
I see potential for this design, but you need to make the planets look like planets, and not just smiling cute blobs.
KaseyMaster on Sep 07 '09
If the other planets could be holding signs, that would be cool.
If you have time, please: Power of the Clouds Rock Kills! |

As much as I usually hate topical t-shirts, this one is actually kinda funny. Keep working on it, add some more detail.
biglogan on Sep 07 '09
this is a great idea . . . we here in Canada are watching the current American health care crisis with a sort of ironic frustration! lol
aaaanyway, about the shirt! I'd add a gallaxy with a smily face in the background. also, i think all the planets should be injured in some way. maybe a simple bandaid on the planet holding the sign, one of the ones in the background have his arm in a sling? another with bandage wrapped around his "head" like old timey jaw injuries. great idea :D any thoughts on my "geek" submission? |
Jayjay1122 on Sep 07 '09
I had to seriously revamp my design in order to get it within the 8-color limit. I'm still not even sure if I'm in the clear, as I have multiple shades of brown. :/
Thank you for all of your suggestions - I'll be sure to take them into account for the next version. I'm just putting up this one so you can get an idea of where the design is headed with the color limit. More suggestions are always welcome, so please leave a comment! |
Jayjay1122 on Sep 26 '09
You know, I think I'm just going to submit this version. I've spent quite a bit of time on it, so I think it's ready.
Before I submit, any last-minute comments/suggestions? |
EricDiaz on Sep 26 '09
hah, is that a peanut floating in the bottom right corner?
Jayjay1122 on Sep 26 '09
That's actually supposed to be an asteroid. Lol.
Outlaw01 on Sep 26 '09
I'd like to see a little more vibrant colors on some of the planets -- but it's still really cute.
Maybe instead of text on the sign, simply have a red cross symbol? |
Jayjay1122 on Sep 26 '09
Hmm. That's an interesting idea. Do you think the message would still be conveyed clearly with just a red cross symbol?
And the colors aren't very vibrant because they won't look like planets otherwise. If they're any more vibrant, the shadows and texture on them will look really strange. :/ |
heh i dont like the starry backdrop tho. try tightening up the design instead of having spread out all over the shirt. remember that oversized prints have a 5/6 color limit not 8. at least thats what i recall.
dngai on Sep 27 '09
I think the others have really good suggestions. I just like to add this - looks like the eyes are not the same size; maybe that what you want, but just look a little odd. And the month is too angular for me. Cheers!
Jayjay1122 on Sep 27 '09
Planets need some love too.
I made a couple quick adjustments, and now it's ready to submit! Wish me luck! |
I like it altho I would put a few less stars on the edges of the tee and maybe mock it up on an actual tee shirt as that can often boost scores (even tho it shouldnt)
good luck with this Comment my design please |
