Had this idea for awhile, but this is like the 3rd huge revision I've made.



I'm not real sure about the placement so high like that. I think I will move it towards the middle or even the bottom eventually. Hopefully it makes sense. Comments are appreciated!

Its cute, but I'm just not sure the entire message would get across. It would be very difficult to read the text on the book, and unless one came uncomfortably close, it looks like a turtle choosing to read a random book on the side of a road. Might seem kind of weird.

Hmm...I was worried about that too.



It's just such a tough concept to convey. My first design merely had the turtle crossing the road with a nervous look on his face and a car in the distance. Seemed a bit too simplistic.



One other idea is to have him showing preparation by the side of the road somehow.

...but how does one prepare for a rite of passage?

Perhaps you could have him standing there looking nervous, with a couple of other turtles egging him on? Kind of like a peer pressure thing.

Yeah, I actually came up with a design similar to that. It's not finished quite yet, but it has him crossing the road once again, but this time with a few 'elder' turtles on the other side. They will be wearing apparel reminiscent of Zulu chieftain clothing and the young one will have much much simpler clothing.



There will be a car approaching in the background as well. Just wondering if I should have the elder's egging him on or just standing there observing.

Quick question, in my latest version I can't decide whether to have him crossing the road upright or on all fours. Opinions?

Hmm either way would work I think, so whichever one fits the composition better. Also what if you made the book over sized, like gigantic. That way we could read the text.

That's a good idea, but I'm thinking I will just scrap this idea altogether and go with the revamp. It just doesn't convey the concept well enough.

For your next version, I'd have him crossing on all fours. I've had turtles for a few years now and have yet to see them walk upright. Heh, but I'll be sure to look for your next design!
