This is a design I was thinking to submit for the pre-loved contest.

I don't know if it fits in, but maybe you can help me?

This is about people falling in love with each other before even meeting (thanks to mails and things like that).



What do you think of it??? Any critique is more than welcome!!!

this is a good idea... but i think instead of arrows maybe put them as airplanes or those big boc crates with a parachute dropping the letter or smething... lol just random ideas.. cant wait for version2!

Thank you for the new ideas, I will see what I can do with that. As for the big green arrows, in fact, these are two houses ;) Not very obvious I see :D

Ohhh, they're houses? That makes more sense :D Lol.. Definitely try and change that to make them look more like houses.. And I think the letter thingies are a bit extreme and I can't really see it on a shirt.. Maybe just try having little envelopes instead? Maybe give them wings or something as well, make it cute =]

Here is a new version, after I took your critiques into account.

I got rid of the "houses" ;) and replaced them with children silhouettes.

I also replaced the arrows by paper airplanes.



The idea is sto submit this design to the pre love contest.

I hope you like it, and if you have any remarks/critiques, don't hesitate!

it would be very nice if you can get the shadowing on each kid...i think this design is a wonderful idea and concept...on my part i'll do the earths continent in blue rather than green....hey if you got time i just got my first submission being scored...need a little help thanx...

Love it! great colors! My only concern is that the plane looks like its going to hit the girl in the butt, which would detract from the overall sweetness of the design

why three hearts? little girl looks wierd

There are two hearts on one side because otherwise, it looked too symetric, plus the way is longer on this side.

OK for the little girl, I will work on her.

the two letters are out from the general style, you should make them more stylized

very strong conceptually; the idea is solid. The colours of dark blue and pink go well together - maybe change colour of the earth? It's dominating the pic easily

this is soooo cute. only suggestion i have is to be carefull about the placement of the airplane. it looks like its going to hit her bum. well done really. id wear this!!!

wow i really like this render, imo i think you should get rid of the letter and texture the little paper planes with the letter content well jut imo

-I changed the letters, they are more simple...do you prefer this version( I feel it still needs some work, but I would love to have your advices).

-I also worked on the little girls silhouette, I hope that what looked strange to some of you does not look strange anymore!

-finally, I changed the paper airplane orientation so that it does not look as if it was going to hit her butt anymore. I also feel like I will have to do more changes for that...let me know what is your opinion.

Very nice! I wonder how it would look if you stylized the Earth, so that the continents were much more jagged and inaccurate.

Sweet idea. This version is much improved. I would suggest shrinking the planes slightly?

hi, 10x for your comment. About your design it's really cute :) the girl is great. The only thing is that the letters are like real (photo) but the other elements of the illustration are simple and clean. It's goes like they are from different drawing.

This is looking better. I think the globe could still use some depth to it. the paper airplanes and the envelopes are nicely shaded and what not but i think the globe could use some of that depth aswell.

Nice design, great idea. I have to say, if I compare it to earlier versions, I prefer the colours u used earlier. I think you should keep the letters white/off white. The black lines on the letters are a good addition.



Also, just an idea: perhaps you can try and see how it looks if you send the boy's letter a bit more over the earth, instead of passed it. The first horizontal line after it comes out of his hand is a bit long right now.

i love this idea!! but the colour combination for v3 appeals to me more? and yes i think the globe could use some volume/ tones.

@Knijper: what do you mean the letter going over the earth? The letter itself, or the path??

I did some modifications:

-I changed the letters colour (put it back in white)

-I added black lines around the continents on the earth

-I added shadows (for the girl, the boy and the earth).

I went back to the previous colours.

Aw, I really love this idea. It looks great, except I'm not sure about those white envelopes being where they are. Maybe try putting the envelopes inside the paper airplanes so it's like they're really being delivered rather than just floating in the air?

Do you think you need the envelopes? It reminds me of Outlook. maybe just the paper aeroplanes, maybe made out of aerograms (with the patterned edges) or a stamp on the corner.

My last comment was aimed at the path, not the letter itself :)



I like this one better than the previous one, although I think it's a bit weird to give both the boy and the girl a shadow (like there are 2 suns in this galaxy :)

That's really cute! I think no envelopes would be good. I feel like the people need to pop more, maybe change the shirt color. That would be cool if there was some sort of background, stars or galaxy. Maybe add some texture to the earth, it seems so generic. If it had some kind of pattern to make it a bit more interesting. I like the concept. Can't wait to see what is next.

Does anyone else think that the earth is too bright? We are looking at the nighttime side, given the shadows, and the two people are falling into the dark blue t-shirt a bit too much compared to the earth. I preferred to colours in v4, but still too bright.



Perhaps a subltey and carefully shaped highlight around the edge of each figure would set it off perfectly. If you look at a backlit object, the light actually creeps around the edges. Don't add to the area of the silhouette, draw the highlight line inside the existing border.



Perhaps the earth could be completely black too, with an edge highlight, perhaps biased to one side like early morning.

Final version...maybe?? :)

I just added some texture to the earth this time. I tried to higlight the silhouette, but in my opinion, it didn't work.

If things are all right with this version, I will put on a submission file in flash (with a detailed view and the placement on a tshirt).

hmm..I think thee dark background is trying to steal attention from the silhouette. Maybe a lighter for the boy & girl? :)

This was just a quick try, so don't pay attention to the silhouettes outline, I will work on that.

Its a lovely idea. --the hardest part is solved!



I would explore other illustration styles. this concept lends itself to a hand drawn look. might be best to step away from the computer on this one and draw it!

Other than touching up the silhouettes, I think it looks great as it is.

Do you mean with the silhouette in pink? or in black??

Pink looks good, Black not so much. You could also test some other colors on your own and see which ones you like.



I just think the silhouettes themselves may need some smoothing or made to look less aliased.

Yes, I know bout the sun...this is just that I like it this way and don't want to change that.

Anyhow, if I wanted to be truly real, I would have done half of the earth in night time.

nice concept, the idea about the night on one half of the earth may not be bad, try it with one silhouette black (like previous versions) just to check how it looks.. maybe it will add something, in any case i wud submit it..
