So this is my idea for the preloved competition. The concept being its an old, used up, preloved crayon. And he's saying "Prussian Blue and Flesh, now those were colors!" Prussian blue and flesh are retired crayola colors, as is blue gray. Is this dumb? Shoot me straight, I can take it. I really like this character, but wasn't sure if its enough by itself. Thanks for the help!
I think you should emphasize the word "those" more. i.e. slightly bolder.
"Prussian Blue and Flesh, now those were colors!"
Also, maybe change flesh to another short color word that is more evocative of color. "Flesh" might lead viewers astray thinking about skin or meat, and then misinterpreting the crayon guy.
I think it would be really funny if you had him talking to a really young color like macaroni or something. Great concept, i really like it. Word of caution, I personaly like the word bubble and the saying, but almost everybody on threadless wont from my experience. Im having that problem mabye help me out?
oh man thats a PERFECT idea. well done. You did it the best anyone could have. :P I think you could just fix the cane so that its a grey or brown. THis is truely awesome. You have my votes on it.
Lol! That is so cool! :D I think that the speech bubble needs some work though.. The text should be more readable.. Took my like 3 attempts until i understood what it said, but that might just be me, lol!
LOVE the illustration, but I agree with everything Bio-bot said. I got a kick out of "flesh" because it's so not PC, but not being PC is probably problematic. Perhaps you could use "maize."
I also like the idea of adding a young new color. Newest colors are: inch worm, jazzberry jam, mango tango and wild blue yonder.
Seems like people are struggling with the Pre-Loved contest, not that many submissions so far. But this is awesome!
If you do get a lot of negative about the text, you might be able to put the "lost" crayon colors as drawings in a thought bubble as superhero styled crayons with halos or wings to show they're great, but gone.
You're skills are remarkable - what a lovable old crayon!
So this is my idea for the preloved competition. The concept being its an old, used up, preloved crayon. And he's saying "Prussian Blue and Mulberry, now those were colors!" Prussian blue and mulberry are retired crayola colors, as is blue gray. Is this dumb? Shoot me straight, I can take it. I really like this character, but wasn't sure if its enough by itself. Thanks for the help!
hmm good suggestions, I like the first font better too, but Im worried its tough to read. I thought mulberry sounded kinda old, some other good options might be magic mint, thistle and maize.
jaja this its just awesome, i love the concept the illo and the text everything fits perfectly, the only thing its like you said before maybe its kinda difficult to read, but only if your eyes doesnt work well anyway i love this design, it fits great with the preloved theme, any designer should have a tshirt like this.
ps it would be a nice touch if the type would look crayon like
I really think the greyness of the first version is great. I think if you scale down the character, but leave the bubble the same size you would have a ringer. It's a great great idea.
If you have a second I have two critiques up, I would really appreciate some suggestions!
wow :) this is a really cute concept.. I was thinking though, what if instead of the speech balloon, just put splats of crayons that previously rubbed off against his paper covering? Remember how our oldest crayons are? They have splats of colors here and there and they're no longer recognizable? Teehee...
Otherwise..I really looooove the way you colored it + the color combo + the lines...how the legs appear frail *Okay..I should stop..haha* (LOL)
