here is a VERY rough sketch for my first Threadless idea!



...the planets have made a campfire out of the sun and decide to roast some 'mallows while in orbit. i thought it would be fun for the summer.

I think this has a lot of potential, maybe make the planets more identifiable, I guess that would be done with colours. I think it would be funny if the guy at the top lefts arm had caught fire and he's desperately trying to blow it out

this is so cool and i could see it easily going somewhere if worked on keep at it do some linework, look at winning designs, take in your natural art style and show us that next version :)

OH man this is hilarious! I love it. I think the guy with the 5 marshmallows should have a cheeky grin on his face though. Something is missing from the two lovers not sure what though. And the fire deffs needs to be put in place to finish it off. Great work. well done. I love it.

it goes counter clockwise starting with the guy with 5 marshmallows (which is mercury...i figured the smallest would have the biggest appetite!) and so that would make the "couple" uranus and neptune. can you tell that you are looking at their backs or do they just look faceless? i might turn them a bit and have them 'gazing into eachothers eyes'....any thoughts?

i uploaded this really late last night....so heres a little refresh bump =)

can't wait to see it when the sun is added. it's looking great so far.



maybe you could differentiate the planets by giving them different characteristics? like a give earth the outline of the continents, put a couple mountains on mars, craters on mercury, etc. it could all be done with fine line work and you wouldn't need to use much colors.

i agree, i would love to see a lil variation on the planets. this is a really cool design though!

8 colors on navy. i was really disappointed that i couldnt obtain the glow effect from the sun like i had wanted (i would have went over the color limit), but i will be posting another version with all grey planets like in v2.

The planets look too cartoon. They should be spherical, not circular.

yea, i wasnt really going for realistic...

and i went for sphere with the stripes on some of them...i guess the sun and mars are a little flat still

I think its pretty good. I would suggest getting rid of the arms and face on the sun though. It would make it look more like a campfire.

here is a second full colored version...i think i like it better than v4

still 8 colors, but i think the greys tone it down in a good way....also i really like the highlights from the sun!

Looks very good! Very well illustrated and a cute concept. This would be especially good as a kids shirt. The only thing that could be an interesting addition is if you made the sun with the UV Color Change ink described in the Specialty Printing pdf. But otherwise, it'd ready!

Haha! The planets are so full of emotion, I love the clumsy saturn and how the smallest planet.moon has the most marshmallows. I suppose uv and glow in the dark ink aren't necessary, but it seems like a potential design for it. The colors and tee color are good picks.



My only proposed fix is the 3 o'clock planet looks more like it's trying to hitch hike than being scared or surprised that it's 'mallow is on fire. Maybe it's just the way the top of the hand is flat, but that's just me.

Oh, and the sun's better off with no face. Thanks for the crit on mine btw.

thanks for your comment! and yea...im not so great with hands (hence the glove/non fingered hands here) i tried changing the position of the hand but it made the arm go in all weird directions...



also the planets go counterclockwise starting with little mercury with the 5 'mallows! i tried to give them some characteristics to define them using the lighter grey color (mercury has craters, jupiter and venus are swirly, mars i splotchy, and earth has continents...and a hat!)



also i would love to do a glow ink...but flash refuses to download properly and im not sure got to do a gif animation, but ill look into it!



and if you read all that, youre the best!

I think its great!!! Before subbing would you consider the black line around the sun? and perhaps making it more fiery? The presentation ( which nowadays is more important than ever) could use some work. I would do a large image of the design and then put the three tee options small and to the side without the white background

this is great, i especially like it as a kids tee, if i had a kid, i would buy it for him, not my style personally, but it's a great design! good job!

this is eight colours? i think you can easily make it 6 colours by making the highlights from the sun using the light yellow in a halftone. it might put it in a better position for printing that way. looks cool on the tee!

yea, this is exactly 8 colors: orange, yellow, yellow on the dark grey, yellow in the light grey, black, white, dark grey, and light grey.



i did try the halftone, but A. i am a novice computer colorer and i was struggling to figure out how best tot do it and B. it just didnt match the rest of the piece.....i hope the 8 color thing doesnt work too much against me

I think the sun looks better without the face.. I'm gunna say submit it because I can't suggest anything that's too necessary.. If I was going to give you any improvements, I would say to make the background a bit more exciting.. Maybe add a few comets or something.. But, again, this isn't necessary.. I think this looks incredible the way it is! Excellent job =]

I think one of the people in the couple should be considerably smaller. Like a moon of that planet. The hands holding the orbit.



And maybe pull one of them back more, like a pluto planet. Too far to get any heat.

This is really great!! I'm kinda bummed that the planets don't have color though.

i like version 4 best, but without a face on the sun.. the planets that are holding hands, i think you need to make their hands look more like hands.. it looks like a marshmellow. maybe if you use the less colorful version, you could make all the hands a different color other then white, just to show the difference between hands and mashmellows. great idea, keep it up.

yea, unfortunately i had to choose between colors or the light from the sun....i made some subtle marks to differentiate them and they are pretty much to scale. they go in order counterclockwise. mercury is obviously the smallest, then venus, earth with the hat, etc. i kind of like the subtlety of it though, that way you can really take in the picture as a whole.

I love this idea alot. Honestly I think the colors are way too intense in v4...



Now I see that conflict with the marshmallows opidan64 mentioned on the bottom. See if you can maybe change the hands up.

Ah this is great! I love everything except that Jupiter is blowing his marshmallow and the flame is being blown at the wrong angle. Although that's probably just being picky.. Even if you didn't tweak that, this thing is ready for subbing, what are you waiting for!
