I think of my robot image as an earthling dressed in protective gear to to protect her from the effects of global warming, war, the economic situation, and more, but she can also be interpreted as a playful figure.
(My design is more than 8 unique colors because it is a JPEG and the original is a watercolor painting. When I saved it as an 8-color GIF it lost a lot of quality, so I went back to the JPEG format. My feeling is that it could be printed in process color (CMYK) perhaps.) NOTE: I am currently using this image as my avatar on Twitter and Facebook. If that is problematic, let me know and I will pick another avatar.
No I don't think using the image as your avatar is going to be a problem. And they can print more than 8 colors using this simulated technique process type thing. I suggest you spend some time checking out some of the printed shirts and those up in voting to see what things are about. :)
As for the design. It is a very nice painting. Feels a little bare though. It might help putting it on a silver shirt or something. I kind of feel though that as the little robot guy is inside the window and not outside that he shouldn't be cut off at the bottom like that. You should really give him a body.
Thanks for the critique, udolpho. You have made some very good points. I chose black for the t-shirt color because I personally like black t-shirts, but I'm sure my little robot would also be fine on other colors. I will go check some of the other shirts being voted on!
