finally got the time to transform my avatar into a shirt design :-)



it's the first sketch & i'm also looking for a good title....

Unfortunately I can't think of any titles right now, but if I do, I'll let you know.

I can't wait to see it colored like your avatar... I've always been drawn to your avatar, but wasn't sure what was going on there...

I don't think Waterproof Sunscreen is a bad one... hmm, or something like, invisible sunscreen... but that's kind of lame. I'll think on it.

as for a title, i think waterproof sunscreen is pretty good actually - i can't think of one better anyway!

his hat seems abit off tho. i think u need to center the um top part a bit

still needs to clean up some linework, but i'm gonna shade/color it for sure!

not too much tho, just some yellow for the bones and orange for the lifesaver,

maybe some toxic color for the cocktail :-)

but it will be clearer when colored i hope.

hahaha this is freakin awesome, only suggestion is the left led doesn't look incredibly believable, maybe make the ankle thinner and add the beginning of the cafe arch toward the upper part of the drawn leg also maybe color the inner tube orange or something, would look great on a light blue tee so you get the idea of water...comment mine? its called robot infidelity.

Ha-ha! Good one! Not much to comment on. His hat is a bit off, longer on the left I think. Maybe the drink glass could be a bit taller? I guess one of the blues, denim, for the tee makes sense but I wonder what it would look like on black. Don't know if that would work but a black pool might be interesting. Anyway, great idea should be awesome when done. Cheers!

I agree with Quister on the hat comment, and think both legs could use some work... but I was figuring you were going to touch up things like that in the final process, no?

I think the bone color and the orange color of the doughnut would be complimented really well by a dark gray, or, for a more fun look, a light blue would look great, plus, it would mimic the color of the sky and sea. And be sure to make the umbrella a bright accent like pink or yellow.

Cool, electric lime drink! I'm not sure but maybe the skeleton color could be lighter. And yeah, the straw hat is a bit rough but I love that it's straw and has that texture. Cheers!

loving the colors only final suggestion would be to make the part of the inner tube that is underwater a little lighter cause water sort of distorts colors and makes them lighter than they are, maybe make the drink a different color too, dont know what it's supposed to be but maybe a light brown or yellow so people can use their imagination as to what it is...other than that its amazing, I would love to have one

def agree with the idea of re-working the sombrero because it gets a little distracting when it's right next to such a detailed head. it looks awesome in color though, and i think it would look great on a grey tee or the current color....good luck!

Loving the colors here, and great job with the shading! I still would like to see the overall shape of the sombrero adjusted a little because the proportions seem off, and the feet could use some refining (specifically the right ankle). Other than that I think your sense of scale and attention to detail is a amazing.

Very cool!!, I'm agree that the sombrero looks a bit weird...I really don't know what it is...Maybe it is the color of the inside of the sombrero, I think it could be darker.

A cocktail glass, as agrimony said, it's also a good idea.

okay, good suggestions were given:

i changed the sombrero, reduced his right ankle and gave him a proper cocktail glass.



also added some shine to the bones, and deleted the black outlines underwater to get a better effect. maybe some tweaks here and there, but this one is almost done, don't you think?

yeah almost done! tweak the fingers to wrap properly around the cocktail glass of course :) i liked it on grey

i see what you mean with the fingers and the cocktail glass. i could choose to make the fingers become a fist when holding the cocktailglass, now the tip of the fingers are holding the glass... maybe you're right that the hand will look better.



in the final presentation, i think i'll sub it with the two tee color options: grey & blue

I love it 99%. i don't like the turquoise cocktail (and it adds another colour to your print) but the illo is super cool.



If I were doing this design, i'd make the silhouette lineweight 1.5 - 2x as thick, just to make it pop off the shirt.

two color options BLUE / GREY

and added a darker outline (still needs to clean some bits and pieces).



also changed the cocktail color (now i use 8 colors again :-)

i think it all looks balanced, with these colors and setup...

oh, and also changed his right hand holding the cocktail glass....

it gives him a bit more class (thanks to agrimony)

how about adding a sun in the back, to complete the story about the waterproof sunscreen?

hmm. i was like, this is very cute. and then i saw the feet in the water and i was horrified. creepy. my only suggestion is that i cannot tell if his hand is in the water or not or if there is still flesh there of it his hand is bone. dont know how that can be solved but i think there needs to be no doubt in that fact when its submitted.

Wow..great progress!!, The martini glass works really good!. I agree with make something with his left hand..it looks a bit weird. Maybe you can change the position of the hand, and separate the fingers a little. Also I'm not sure about adding a sun...The design really looks great now. Anyway I think it is almost ready to be submitted. : )

It's drawn really neat, but I must say I don't intuitively "Get it". The image is not going to have the title associated with it, so at face value it's a bit of a head-scratcher.



Maybe have a bottle of sunblock floating nearby, or else make steam/smoke coming off, to really emphasize the affect of the sun.

or else change the context, and maybe have a cloud of mosquitoes rising up, or piranhas with wings? i.e. something that can't under the water.

Oh man, little piranhas with wings would be amazing, and hilariously ironic. Especially if they were sort of twirly and swarming.....



Or even rabid hummingbirds....just kidding



Otherwise, this is a fantastically put together illo! Great colors

hmm, you mentioned a sun in V8, maybe a hole in the ozone layer with the sun piercing through, that would really fry you, (according to the scientist's studying that stuff). "Uh-Oh! Zone" maybe ;P

It's easy to get carried away when people are trying to be helpful saying "Add this! Add that! Yeah!" but I think your v8 was perfect.



The fish looks great but it takes away from the concept - why would the fish be 80% bones when it's 100% underwater?

i think i keep the smoke and the flies... they work well in the concept



agree with the contradiction with the flesh on the fish.. it's not right, but hey! ;-)

should have been a bird skeleton to make it right (thought about a floating seagul or pelican, where the tophalf is all bones, and under water still has the fleshy bits)

nice - I like the smoke. flies and fish too - it finishes it off nicely!

@at the hand in the water. so basically its supposed to be like the legs with the skin, muscle, etc. still intact, the only problem is that it kinda looks a little off, at least to me anyways

my suggestion is to instead of having just the fingers in the water, put like most of the forearm in the water...that arm looks a little short anyways

I agree, the perspective of the left arm makes it seem like it has a short forearm. Other than that, I think it's really good!

this looks great ... however, i would ditch the visual smell.

looking back on your older versions i noticed you didn't have the smell, and i think it looks better without. the flies are pretty suggestive.
