Just a little play on words. The red blood is to be done in the blister ink (as described in the Specialty Printing pdf included in the Submission kit). Somethings I would like to hear commented on:



- Should it be more 3 dimensional, or keep it flat

- Like or dislike of colors (shirt or inks)

- Any ideas or suggestions on how the splatter might look better

- Is the general concept clear, or should something be added



Thanks for checking out my design Critique, and all constructive is welcome. I don't yet consider it done, so don't worry about being negative. I'm naturally aiming to make a shirt that people will want to buy, so the more you say the better this should go.

I like it flat.

It's hard to describe the splatter. Like, if you flicked a toothbrush... like specks? Haha.

I would keep the tie, pocket and scissor flat, but make the blood look more real (faded smeared effect, I would get some ideas form some murder movie)...

i agree w/ those above. make the blood more splatter-tastic, and the drip from the pocket even more drippy. the blue shirt is prbably the best.

Second - Good concept.

On the splatters - perhaps jst where it was cut, not in the whole tie area. It's a pretty clear concept though.



Have you considered adding a little design element to the tie? Some sort of pattern? Love how the tie is loose. Well done.



Blood stains - perhaps a slightly less vibrant color. I like the faded idea by Schlotzz.

I like the colors. The concepts clear. I think you should keep it flat.

And as for the splatter, I think maybe if it weren't all so sharp, and if there were a few splotches that weren't directly connected to each other it might work better. Maybe not. Just an idea. :)

There's been a lot of these, tuxedo shirt, mouse in pocket, vest and tie, etc., but I've not seen anything like this. The designs are all loosely based on Trompe-l'œil, (French: "trick the eye"), an art technique where objects appear in three-dimensions, instead of actually being a two-dimensional illustration. So, I think you need some dimension of the objects in the design to really pull this off. Meaning a shadow under the collar and tie, buttons with holes and shading, a more dimensional scissor, etc. As far as the blood goes, I think you may have a bit much. I know you're looking to frame the area where the tie was but see if you can't do that with intermittent splatters so the viewer fills in the gaps and gets the tie shape, maybe more interesting I think. Also, blood on material isn't uniformly red, there's some lighter shades, maybe that will help add some dimension to it, see link below. Anyway, good start, keep it going. Cheers!

Okay, version number 2.



I added some shadows (as a transparent black), gave the buttons some holes, added stripes to the tie, and slightly different blood. I kept thinking "this would be easier in Photoshop", and then made it in Ps and did a live trace, so it's still vector. Remember, it will be a thick and bubbly "blister" ink, making it look all the more creepy. I think it looks much better, and I'm not sure what else it needs.



Feel free to write anything you want about this; good or bad, add this or erase that. If you want, I'll check out your critiques as well and write back.

Whew, a lot of great improvements from v2. I think everything you changed is a step in the right direction; Like the dark spots around the scissors, striped tie, improved splatter, and overall detail. Maybe not so much splatter at the top left corner, like try and keep most of the splatter at or below the line of the cut. Just a suggestion, not vital.. I do like the added symmetry of the top left splatter though, so maybe keep it. I don't really know haha.

I agree with the comments from above on the splatter above the cut line - not so much. I think the shadow on the pocket needs more work or be removed. Definitely better than the first version!

Oh, just noticed - I'd be careful how many colors this really is, because I think the dark yellow, dark red, and dark blue all count as separate colors, even if you're just adding a low opacity black over your four main colors.

This is still a cool design, I think you should work more on the shading. watch your color use as well.

Hey, thanks for your comment, i will fix this little mistakes.. About your tee, i like the concept but i think that you can make more "expressive" the contour line of the tie and the neck of the shirt.

The only thing that bothers me a bit is that the tie and pocket look flat to me. :-/ Maybe fidget a bit with more shadowing?

Wow! Dramatic shirt design!



Overall I think it is sound with my only quibble being the shadows. If you go with a gaussian blur you may have issues with a poor transition into the shirt color, so I won't suggest that, but perhaps you can fake a blur by having one more shadow edge that's half way closer to 0%? Don't forget that the tie itself will cast a bit of a shadow, especially under the clipped edge.



This shirt would be an amazing conversation starter, just don't wear it to church or a butcher shop.

Loving the new splatters - much more aggressive and action-ey.... The shadows are looking good. I'd def increase the shadow on the cut edge of the tie - it would not only give more depth, but ould also make it pop more.



Love the new buttons. I still don't think you need that tie outline....but either way is cool.

I actually like it the way it is. But I did't see the first version...

Well, I haven't yet changed the design (don't worry, I am going to try some of the ideas people have said, like adding more shadows), but I wanted to re-send it in as a swf file so you can zoom in on the detail, and see it on different shirt colors. The "Shirt Colors" section act as buttons, and they basically work correctly. I also threw in a mock up on a photo, but it's of course an approximation.
