haha - love this T-Lou - really impressive. My only comment would be that the case and shoes are a different style to the main drawing. I don't think it matters with the shoes so much but maybe change the case or at least have it look that he's gripping it better. It looks slightly disembodied from the rest of the pic @ moment.

Yeah, def match up the styles. I would also suggest confining this to red, white and black.

It is just kind of a rough idea at this stage - but will take on board your comments and see where it goes.

Terrific line work! Very eye-grabbing visual! I agree with a firmer grip on the case and synching the style. Other than that, I'll be radical here, and say lose the human hand, have the wing holding the case and bird's feet instead of boots. Maybe make the case out of twigs with the same terrific detail that you put into the feathers. Just my opinion, it's your call. Anyway great start, keep going. Cheers!

hehe thats really cool, the only thing I can suggest that I feel the shoe is bit out. maybe the size or colour. Just my personal opinion. Its your decision in the end. keep up the great work :)

Thanks for the feedback - yeah one shoe was supposed to be bigger but i may try drawing them as chicken feet - but then it won't be a chicken-MAN?

As I said, T-Lou, your call. You might be right, it could be that the human shoes, hand and attache case are what gives your design that interesting twist. I don't know, I think it would still be, "Chickenman has a hard day at the office", if he's more chicken than man, the difference being he has a briefcase (funnier if it's made of twigs/leaves) in hand. See what others say before you listen to me, I wouldn't have so many low-scoring designs if I were the end all in giving advice, that's what the critique page is for. Anyway, just the great line work on the feathers should get big praise no matter how the design evolves. Cheers!

Your chicken here is very striking, and the human elements just aren't that interesting in comparison.



The suggestions to lose the human elements (other than briefcase) could work, but I don't think that's necessary.



Redraw (even trace) the hand, boots, and briefcase in a style similar to the chicken itself, and get rid of all the brown, grey, shading, and gradients. They look awkwardly modern and clunky (and sort of Web 2.0) compared to the funky simplicity of the chicken itself, and funky simplicity is definitely what you have going for you.



You could still use color, but I'd get the style consistent first, and work out the colors after you have that.

hmm, nice idea but you can make it better imo. leaving shoes and case without light and shades would be good for keeping the whole illustration at the same level.

The chicken is great but the shoes and case don't fit it.

Whoa, the chicken is awesome, though I agree with the others that the shoes and the briefcase detract. They definitely need to be changed to fit into the same style as the bird. Maybe all you need is the briefcase tho? Just ditch the shoes and add some bird feet? I'm not sure though...

I agree with Mismonaut. The chicken part is really quite intriguing.

Bird part is the best. Replace hands and feet with more birdish features (or do something abstract), but mostly just get rid of the boots hands and briefcase.

The style of the shoes and case clash with the stark B&W chicken, plus the forward shoe is distractingly out of proportion. I'd like to see some shades on gray in the feathers.

I think I have decided just to call this simply "Chickened Out"...

or the chicken walk of shame ;)

the resolution of this version looks a bit fuzzy - i may sub it again.

I like this a lot. I especially like the way the feet are done, and think this design would be cool with more gray throughout the chicken. Comment on mine!

It looks better without the briefcase and boots.



A couple ideas:



-You could go in and add more details/texture to the feathers. It would be a pain, but the end result would be very impressive.

-You could add some (very small) red details or accents to go with the red of the eye.



You might want to make the feathers a little bigger, where the handused to be. There's a lot of white space there, and it looks a little odd. Expanding the black of the feathers a bit would help that.

Ha-ha! Chicken man is back! Maybe make his wing longer, looks a bit out of proportion (though I don't know exactly what a chicken man's proportions are). The feet are OK but maybe better without the gray as is the rest of the art. I think the right one could use a few more notches/lines in it (see rooster legs below). Have you tried this all black on a red tee or all red on a black tee? Could be more dramatic and better integrate with the shirt, I think. I'm not liking the molting feathers coming off the back leg, though I do like the ones on top (shows movement/activity). Maybe you should have him kicking a soccer ball and call it "Fowl Play" or "Fowl Ball", hehe! Anyway, love the image and line work, very graphic, and unique design. Cheers!

Hey laura, I kind of put it "on hold", couldn't think how to develop it further.

But I am going to re-look at these old crits soon. I am up to my eyeballs in this other work at moment - intricate detail, crazy redraw time, huge file sizes, computer keeps crashing, etc etc. Sigh.

If only TL could be my full time career ;)
