well it has way more than eight colors, and not sure about it, but, we'll see.

it's nice, but please adjust the vectors. :) I always insist on this issue, because a live-traced image always needs to be adjusted. The strokes, the paths, the shapes. The wire, the holes of the dialer etc etc. reduce the colors to eight. :) it needs some work :)

hey nice design, i'd reduce the color a bit though. you don't need so many. maybe try using the color in the ear and mouthpiece in the dial ring that would reduce it a bit, you could probably remove the light yellow and some of the cream tones without sacrificing the design. but if it ends up not working then keep the colors

may the gold, a little lighter, not to light otherwise it would ruin the balance in the colors, OR OR, at a twinge of purple to the black to offset the yellow/gold/goldenrod and make it more visually interesting (as though it could be!)

i've done a couple different things, there's the original with many many colors



the eight color version (now with some old styley colour tweaks)



and now there's the six? seven? color version minimal color tweaks,



no shadow yet, it's in the process, ok? would it be better with a realistic shaped shadow, or something kinda blobbish?

the bottom left design of the bird looks neater but the image of the phone looks better in detail.

I'd say to keep the "40404" off. It's looks better without the numbers on it.



With the placement I'd think of putting down near the bottom of the shirt and to the side, but I'm pretty partial to that look lol. Not really sure about shirt color though.

It's a nice image, but I think your vectors need work. That is one rough live trace you've got there, hombre. The whole thing could stand to be manually adjusted, but some of the most glaring examples are the cord, which varies wildly in width, and the holes in the dial, none of which are the same size or shape.

Oh, and it works best on light blue.

Dude, i'm so impressed with how far this design has gone. But i have to say, i'm sort of uncomfortable with the idea that you'd have a dark blue image (the bird) with a light blue back ground. white or creme i've always thought, would have made the best background colors.

@Marslindo I'm not taking your color advice, you don't know how colors work.

This is just the main design with a few tweaks to make it look (i think) better.



the cable has been fixed so it's not so weird, and more uniform

the holes have been fixed some more

little fixes abound to awkward corners and such in the vectors

I don't think the live tracing is doing your concept justice, It's a great idea, and although I'm not a twitterer I can see the appeal of the number reference. But still, the execution is quite poor, and it just seems like you're taking a shortcut by live tracing it. I know it's a lot harder but maybe you could hand draw it and scan it in, then work on it from there?

One thing that's worked for me is tracing it over a light box a few times, tracing the tracing ti'l it's got my personality, and then scanning and using live trace.



But the colors and concept a re pretty cool!

ok, so i've apparently been in the dark about what illustrator can do, this isn't live trace, this is my tracing a picture by hand. i tried using live trace, and it didn't really work out that well, honestly, i don't get it. nifty feature though, i suppose

Added the speech bubble, I figure one "tweet" is best, simple for maintaining some degree of simplicity.



I wasn't sure about the colors, i wanted to stay within the eight that I have, I think this is the best combination, if You think that there would be a better color combination, tell me!

I can also add an outline to the speech bubble, but again, i dunno what colors i would use,

I think the design is absolutely beautiful. And I agree, I don't think the bird should say something like "operator". I think it's fine the way it is - either with both the bird and the phone saying tweet, or just the phone. (I actually like the one with the phone saying tweet more, I think it invokes twitter best.)

Nice idea to open the birds mouth a little. Open mouthed birds look cuter than sharp-beaked eye-pecking birds.



I think both should say tweet. Twitter could fart on my face and even if I had my mouth open I wouldn't know it, but this image works reasonably well anyway. I've never liked the live trace feature in AI or the vectorize feature in Flash, so it's not tickling my fancy stylistically.



Don't forget that you have the shirt as a colour.The poo colours aren't doing it for me and I think you could reduce your pallette by one blue and one poo. The blue-grey is unecessary for me.

@brightwood i tried for lower color count, but it's really difficult to maintain a good look with this design with fewer colors

Maybe try, I'm not saying it's going to work, saving the illustrator file with the pdf option checked. Open it in Photoshop, duplicate the layer, go to image on the menu, adjustments, desaturate. You'll then have a black/gray tonal image. Got to image again, hue/saturation, click on colorize and fiddle with the bars to see what it looks like in a blue monotone. Could help better integrate the design with the shirt color. The blacks and whites you have now kind of float on the background like a decal or iron on. You might also try a cast shadow to further ground the illo. Lastly, I think almost everyone has in one way or another (media coverage/hype) heard of twitter even if they're not knowledgeable of what its about. A tweet being a substitute word for post/entry wouldn't be as well known to those not twittering. So, I think you might think about losing the old fashioned phone and have the bird perching on an open cell/text messaging phone to better convey your concept. Just my 2¢, ignore at will. Cheers!

I think his expression is perfect. He's surprised AND curious. And his name is "Tweet". Even the person calling him knows that.:)



I don't know if someone brought this up already, but the "Tweet" is coming out the part of the phone that one would speak into--no sound comes from it. The part hanging underneath him--that's what you hold to your ear. Right?

yeah, i know that's right, technically the "tweet" is coming out of the microphone, but, if it were actually coming out of the earpiece it would look really strange,

so we're establishing that this phone was built backwards, with the microphone being the part that comes off and the speaker in the stand

and so far, tweet is the best name anyone's come up with

this is a really nice kind of posterized style. i prefer version 2. think it's looking nearly ready. i would maybe make the swatches a bit smaller so they don't dominate the design so much. Why do the numbers on the dial go '40404'?

I tried. ^^ This design has become one of my faves. I personally think it doesn't anything else major done to it. It's really cool. I'll stay off the name committee for awhile. ^^ Curious to see what comes out.

The gold areas need to have the rendering worked on, the lights and darks are too chaotic right now and don't really hint at a light source. Otherwise, it is great. Thanks for looking at Ganesh!

I think there's some white shading still needed on the black part of the phone.. Apart from that I love it :D

he's a cool guy, i'm betting he's right.



and it does look cool, it's like the same thing (duh) but in blue, i could also use basically the same methods to colorize it in fun/ky ways, i.e. make the blacks not so black and the whites not so white

I decided that while quister is an awesome dude, that his advice about the color adjustments were not for me. maybe i'll try that out with another design, because it is very cool, but not this one i think. thanks anyway!

it's ready. submit it and just pray.

I like this, the only suggestions I have would be:

1) smooth out the shadows/highlights in the brass components. they should curve and follow the contour of the shape and right now they're a bit jagged. the simplicity is great, they just need to be smoothed out a bit.

2) since the phone is actually hung up, the word bubble should be closer to the bird. right now it looks like "tweet" is coming out of the mouth piece of the phone and it should be coming out of the bird.

Yeah, maybe, but i think i like the style for this, when i first made the design way back when it had a weird kind of detail you can't get on a tee, and also this actually looked better, i could have gone the cartoon shading route and done some kind of line shading type stuff, but hey, i didn't oh well, maybe for my next one i'll try something like that
