Hi Francesa.
I think the concept is really sweet and funny. I'm sure this is going to look awesome with colors. The drawing is great, i think the boy's rigth hand looks a little strange, but the rest is tottaly great. I love your dog! Please critique mine: The pig-eon Thanks a lot and keep working |

hey, i think there is something nice here, but i can see a few problems= lightning is causing the balloons to burst - so where is that coming from? is that balloon-cloud an anomaly? perhaps show some real clouds too in that case. also water balloons bursting from that height wouldn't make rain-like droplets - unless maybe large sectons of the cloud were exploded by bigger lightning bolt. that would make a very pleasant fine spray. maybe just show the sky full of balloon-clouds manned by projectile-hurling kids. thnks for checking mine.

this would be a great summer shirt. I could see the balloons being cloudlike too. but at the same time, i think it needs more balloon "knots" where you tie the balloon. i agree with sumocloud on the lightning bolt. maybe they are just popping because it's a hot summer day?

Francesa on Apr 21 '09
How about birds popping the water balloons?
|
|
sumocloud on Apr 21 '09
cute. woodpeckers?
|
|
ya i think birds popping the balloon will be a nice why to make the rain falls
by the way nice illustration! |
|
don't know about the birds though... but you need something, that's for sure...
maybe use the umbrella with the spike on top to pop the balloons from the bottom instead of the top (with birds) keep it up, like to see it colored! did you ever visit the Giraffe Settlement? |
|

I think this is a really cool idea and it will look great with colour, but i agree the lightning looks a bit strange. Could you show the cloud it is coming out of? Or maybe you could have another child popping it
Check out my Etch A Sketch |

I think the boy's right arm is a little short.
|
|
Francesa on Apr 23 '09
Started on color. Made crows (smiling crows) popping the water balloons.
Fixed the boy's right arm. Oooops. Sorry about the double versions. It was the internetz, not me. |
|
darrellzilla on Apr 23 '09
well first off i'd say that the "cloud" could use some sort of cohesive bunching, more cloudy feeling. the boy needs some work as well as the dog (the dogs head should look like it's in front of the spine not stuck to the end of it . i would just redraw this. I really like the idea, though, i'd like to see it colored in.

More progress.
What about putting this on a dark blue shirt? |
|
CarsonSuzannne on Apr 23 '09
that looks amazing!
|
|
sumocloud on Apr 23 '09
i like the cloud like that. id like to see lots of individual raindrops rather than just lines, and maybe a couple more birds, and more baloons exploding into raindrops... i like the shirt colour. could maybe be nice a bit lighter, more like the sky.

Francesa on Apr 23 '09
More progress.
Light blue or dark blue like the last version? |
|
sumocloud on Apr 24 '09
prefer the previous blue.. but slightly lighter might be nice. this one is too light i think.
|
|

Nice! i prefer the dark blue version. Great work

i get that the balloons are the colour of clouds, but i guess i'm kinda disappointed that they're not lots of colourful bright water balloon fight colours! there's something overall a bit too "pastelly" about it for my liking.
the concept and line are fantastic mind you, i just think the colours could be stronger and more playful. any comments on my robot please? |
|
Megan Isabella on Apr 24 '09
You know what? I actually prefer the original line drawing, without colour if it was going on a shirt....as a print its amazing though :)

oh man, lots of progress, you're very close to a sub.. i think the dog has less detail than the kid, maybe tweak him a bit so they are equal?
i love these colors, the dark blue made it too contrasting, this makes it flow really well, and the birds are really well done. also, maybe make the water falling from the balloons look less like circles with lines coming from them you said mine wasn't optimistic enough for you..what about this one? http://www.threadless.com/critique/42473/Alright |

now i just wish the clouds were higher up. But it's cool :) I would say more, but i think you aren't done with it yet. so ill watch and see how it goes :)

more rain maybe, and can't wait to see what happens with the balloons. i don't know if this needs more of a background, or to extend further on the plane it is on...but it seems a little "sparce" maybe.

The kid looks like he has Down Syndrome. Why are the clouds grapes?

The light blue is right for the mood and conveys sky better than dark. I think there's a bit of an illusion with the left foot. It looks nearer even though his shorts indicate it's the back foot. The black in the boys face is a bit too contrasting, hard edged. Maybe try the dark blue you already have or a dark brown if you've got any colors left. The dark blue outline under the balloons is a bit shaky. Overall though, it's a fun shirt, well drawn and coming along nicely. Maybe add a child in with the usual adult model with this one, so scorers see the design's potential for kids as well as themselves. Cheers!

awesome design! i like it on the light blue better.
as quister said it is a bit odd..for me, the boy's feet keep flipping back and forth between front/back. now this is cool (illusions are always awesome) but not sure if it was intended... |

i still keep my same opinion. some sort of reference, maybe background or something. keep that water splashing! i am starting to think color in the balloons may not need to be as colorful as previously debated..

Robot_Speak on Apr 30 '09
I prefer this color.

|
kenforst on Apr 30 '09
I tend towards more contrast in my work, so taking that into account- I would show more definition between the boy's upper left chest/shoulder and arm. I think a hard line in that outline color would do it. I would also show more unconnected splash drops of differing sizes.
|
|
kenforst on Apr 30 '09
BTW, I have a critique going for a shirt that might just scare away the birds, the dog and the boy... and eat the umbrella and popped balloons... Please check it out...

There is some problems with your shadowing on the boy, his arms are to short for his body, and the foreshortening of the arm doesnt quite work..
i have to say though, that I preferred your outlined version where you started playing with your colour ideas, and then give your clouds some balloon colours but leave the boy as an outline (maybe) This is most certainly one of your better ones :D |
|
i think it needs more rain... (more popping balloons that is)
and looking at the little boy, his anatomy bothers me a bit.. his left arm has a weird angle and you need to rework the shadow on his trousers a bit, to see clearly what leg is lifted and how. what about the placement on the tee? are there flying more birds around on the shirt for instance? could be nice. looking forward to a new version :-) my "Animals On Safari" is up for voting :-) |

Agent_Dick on May 04 '09
I like it. I agree that it needs more rain, but I like this blue better than the other. I think the crow in the back is too small, and I think the hind leg of the dog needs to be more in shadow. Outside of that, awesome.
In response to your crit of mine, I fixed some things, check em out. http://www.threadless.com/critique/43227/Until_Cooler_Heads_Prevail |

Your input would help http://www.threadless.com/critique/42940/title_pending thanks |

Loving the art style. I've checked your other designs out and I must say, you are very skilled. I think this one's ready. Good luck :)
I would appreciate your vote on my design, Hope. Thanks :) |

Love it my only comment would be that the drops look like object that can bonce. would suggest potentially more of a realistic approach?

I like it very much. Just feel that it should have more drops of water.

I really love this idea! I think the kid could use some work in order to make his form a little more believable. I'm wondering if the water balloons would translate better if they were muted colors of balloons.

This is a resubmit of a design from a while back. It has changed so much the previous gif wasn't working.
Color will be added in the next few days if this gets enough love. |

Sooo cute.
I love the colors. I feel like it could use some more splashes, the raindrops hitting the water. And some splashes around all of the dogs feet and the boys raised foot could be dripping. Looks great tho! Do ya mind givin' me a little scory score?! |
