the ruffle work is great and i like the idea

i'd like to see a carefully (not too dark, with some variation perhaps) black line separating the pink from red tones and making the skirt come forward and the underneath pink recede

maybe you could also enhance the receding effect with some darker tones in the pink too



also, the little bit of red on the top left of the flair could maybe be a little bigger...the thin pointy shape of it seems a little abrupt

Great concept Francesca. The ruffle work, as Atrayne pointed out, is fantastic. And the flamingo looks great, I think the neck could be a bit smoother. The legs/shoes are also well drawn and shaded. Maybe the legs need to be extended, even if they're anatomically exaggerated, right now it's a bit top heavy or stumpy I think. Anyway, terrific idea and illo. Cheers!

I think its a great idea, i think maybe separating the legs a little more separate and/or longerwould help proportion wise.

I might extend those legs a little more is a good idea and yes a ground shadow inferred would help finalize it. Funny concept!

i love the concept, but something seems off. maybe have the flamingo's left wing visible.



and a shadow would balance it out nicely.

What about a partner for the dancer? This is a great blue heron.

It's just a filled in sketch - NOT a finished painting. I wanted to see if he got any love first before I did all the work.

You should add a pair of wings doing flamenco stuffs... or not :P



And I don't think you need a partner... :)

i don't know if the partner would work. it's hard to determine what he would look like, but i think it would have some disconnect from the female dancer because it was added in later. it's a pretty strong image by itself. then again, adding in a partner could give her a reason to be dancing...

hm how about some movement lines for the background to show the flow etc.. Just a thought :) And that heron doesn't look dressed for the dance =p

he's totally wanting to ballroom dance, and she's a flamanco-loving flamingo!

i like the blending you did from the dress to the bird, and the additional character is a good addition i will check it later when some colour is added, nice work!

More coloring on the male and a bit more energetic stance as well.

I think you're straying from your original (great) idea. Herons don't Flamenco. Sorry if I disappoint. Cheers!

Sorry Quister. I have saved the first dancer all by herself. She hasn't been lost, but this has been fun to make. I've never seen a heron flamenco either, but then, I've never seen a flamingo do it. I chose a great blue heron because male flamenco dancers are often dressed in black or somber colors. It fit. I can chance him to a flamingo if you insist. They also come in white which would compliment the pink/orange lady. Or I could have him in an orange "shirt" and black pants.

What say you?

I don't know. You're doing an awesome job on the heron. I'll stay neutral and see how you progress. Maybe some hint of the flamingo's wing over the heron's right shoulder? Great skills, cheers!

first off, your heron looks great so far, looking much more like a dancer now =p But the flamingo's wings have been drawn as a dress, perhaps the heron's wings should be a cape or something? Heh not too sure what heron flamenco dancers wear.

Yeah I thought of the difference between the wings being dress and the wings being wings. I was hoping no one else would notice.

the heavy change in the line widths between the wings of the heron and the legs is a little visually damaging.. the heron needs a stronger outside line width i reckon, because of the light grey, other than that, it looks good to go nice one
