I love this! :)

It would be nice if their little faces stood out a bit more though.

I like the faces and I like the subtle eye shape bg

Besides making the faces a bit more prominent, I really don't have anything else to complain about. This is pretty damn clever and well-done.

And if you do decide to add something to make one group more nerdy, I vote for the rods, because even though they don't sense color, they're far more sensitive overall.

maybe a pair of shades on the 'light sensing' rod? if one of the cones is wearing glasses? Thoughts?

I dont understand why the thought bubbles are there if they aren't going to say anything ... I would get rid of them and maybe do some splashes of color in the background to substitute ... nice start.

so the point of the design is lost on 2 of 6 people so far. Should the 'thought bubbles' have lashes to push the 'eye' feeling a bit more? thoughts?

yes to the lashes, it would be much clearer, looks great!

same here haha, joke' lost if you have no biology background. But it's great! lol..

for those who don't get it. rods and cones are stuff in your eyes. rods help you see black/white while cones help you see colours.

I'll see what I can do to make it more easily understood by the masses.

Great design/rendering, very intriguing/mysterious. I didn't get it till I read through but I didn't need to to appreciate it. Geometric shapes are just cool unto themselves. Maybe if the bubble eyes had pupils? Also, just my opinion, but I think individual cast shadows would look better than the one overall shadow. I know it's another eye shape but I think it distracts more than it adds to the design. Cheers!

While I suppose it couldn't hurt to make this easier for the general public to understand, I kind of like that not everybody will get it.

And I imagine far fewer people would get the "This Is Not A Pipe" shirt reference, yet that got printed, reprinted, plus an art print.

good point max. Thanks for the insight before I go overboard generalizing it!

shouldnt the rods be standing in the middle of the group of cones?

also the red cone should definitely be at the front and the blue at the back

i didnt get the eye shaped speech but i did get the 'shadow' one

oh boy look at us design nerds...

Well I'm commenting 2 years too late, but I love this creation. Sure, not everyone is going to get it, but um so what. There is a college animal design printed and available right now that I only got because I spend way too much time reading inane blogs. And anyway I wouldn't buy it, but I will buy your woody design for my mom who lives in the middle of nowhere and likes animals more than people. She will love.
