Gorilla flavor

There are 8 colors total, but I need to figure out exactly how it could be printed to get the right distress effect. my plan would be to-

- use the belt process for the overall distress pattern over the shirt

- the white gloss highlight that would just be a 10pt halftone gradient

I'm pretty sure it's doable though.

also, the main blue on the t shirt is apparently darker, like in the image of the guy wearing it. I like it better that way anyway though

Great design! I like the idea of doing it on a "distressed" shirt. lookin good. :)

I'm sorry but this is a bad idea. You're a good artist but the concept crosses a line you might have overlooked. The problem is that gorillas really are being killed, beheaded and eaten illegally. There's currently a world wide effort to promote awareness of the gorilla's plight (WWF? Gorillas in the Mist? Orangutan Isalnd?). It would be a disaster for Threadless to promote a shirt that makes light of such a high profile environmental concern.

Like I said, you're a good artist and I'm not attacking you. I even get the joke. You just need to pick a different punchline.

I don't know I don't think people would assume that I was promoting beheading Gorillas. There's not really even a punch line. it's just...gorilla flavor ice cream shaped like a face. I'm pretty sure no one's going to assume that I condone slaughtering apes if I wear this shirt. It's just a weird drawing.

But, that is pretty crappy.

so here's an official statement from the author:

this shirt has no affiliation with any underground efforts to actually eat gorillas. There is no political message or deeper meaning than what is at face value: ice cream that looks like a gorilla head.

I'm glad you took my post so well. Even I, Yarzan (an intentional play on "Tarzan", BTW) know you don't actually condone ape eating! I think the idea of gorilla flavored ice cream is funny. It's just a wierd idea. So I'm getting off the primate soap box.

What about pink instead of red? It might be more ice creamy looking. Or orange. Green. Anyting but deep red. Ice cream is always pastel color anyway.

Here's another idea: Do up the design like an actual ice cream logo. You know on the side of an ice cream truck they have all those pictures of the Rainbow Pops and stuff? Make it look like one of those. Same art you have now but add "Gorilla Flavor" in bubble letters and everything.

Okay, I'm done now.

maybe it's hard to see but the actual color is pretty pink, it's just kind of dark. if the shirt doesn't make it as it is I'll be ok, it's supposed to be weird anyway. I just don't want to make it look obviously like an ice cream logo because I don't want it to make that much sense I guess. I like people asking, is it really a gorilla head? or just shaped like one? weird.

Anyway, I'm glad someone is at least taking the time to contribute ideas :)

i think it is pretty creative. hmm, maybe make him be chocolate or something closer to gorilla color? just a suggestion. looks nice either way :)

Are you married to it being a gorilla? I agree, as a random ice cream flavor it's out-there, but if it does accidentally tap into some horrible state in the world, well, that's not what you're going for....

Maybe another theme would be best. If someone were to wear it, as is, and catch flack out in public about it, they might sour on the shirt, and sour on Threadless, and since Threadless is a business, that's not something they would want happening and so even if it scored fantastically well, they just might not go there... I'm just saying that to be realistic.

There must be other wonky, graphically suitable ideas for oddball ice cream flavors. Monty Python had albatross flavored albatrosses... You could do a shoe, or a piano, or a skull, or a phone, or anything...

My two cents, anyway.

Check out my slogans, if you have a moment, k?

I love the idea and drawing, even though I don't like it on a t-shirt.

And if people see a GORILLA HEAD ICE CREAM cone and take it seriously... oh gosh. Do submit, it's nice what you did with the background also.

really, i'm not keen on ape eating, but i have very good sense of humor and i know ice cream and gorilla are both good things, but not in the same way. People shouldn't complain about all the Gorilla Awarness thing, it crealy promotes fun, not death.

Maybe they should sue the gorillas for taking out Itallian pumblers. And sue those Itallian Plumbers about driving recklessly and throw bannanas at others' karts.

it is a wonderfull v1 and you should sub it! don't worry, designers tend to overlook the facts and try to find more things on something than it really has.

like it a lot, and my opinion is not meant to make anybodies' opinion seems foolish, but i think we should be a little more realist and adult here and realize that this isn't promoting any crime at all. It is just a very fun design on a tee.

if we start thinking that way, there are some shirts with ducks being killed, and are fun, and nobody is saying that it is promoting an enviromental crime. i don't think killing ducks for fun is a nice thing to do at all, i don't think that is nice to see anybody dieing, yet i think some designs with people beign killed are fun.

my 2 cents, not intended to make any enemies here at threadless.

yea, and just to clarify, my original idea wasn't, "hm what kind of crazy ice cream flavor can I think of ?"

it was more like, I started drawing a gorilla face and then added a cone and drippy stuff and called it gorilla flavor.

So I'm not married to the idea of the flavor having to be gorilla per say, it's just that I don't feel like changing it because I don't think there's any reason to and the ice cream part of the idea is not really worth the trouble of changing it.

it's just supposed to be a pink gorilla head on an ice cream cone. Purely aesthetic design. Don't try to make sense of it being more ice cream, or more gorilla, cause I don't even know.

Thanks for the comments :)
