This is just a rough sketch to find out if anyone has seen this idea before.

I'm pretty sure I came up with this, but still feel vaguely as though I've seen it somewhere before. ??

So please, tell me if I'm not the first to do this! :)

If all's well I'll go ahead and do up a proper design. Probably not as a silhouette.

You know what might be cool? If the guy was on a motorcycle and was going so fast that the bird was up against the cage from the g-force. I would prefer it if it weren't a silhouette. I don't think a silhouette would enhance the design.

Hmmm, the motorbike idea kinda changes the feeling somewhat. I'm trying to create a sense of freedom. That the bird is caged but flying free. Maybe this guy is even taking his bird for a "fly".

You're right about the silhouette. Thanks for your input. Much appreciated. :-)

Hi, i like the idea.

about the silhoutte, i think it will work, but try to not use it, draw the guy with his face and his clothes, maybe work.

Maybe a few clouds will help you to make the fredom fellin

Keep working!

about if someone else did it, i did'nt see this before

check mine please!

i really like the concept and I think there's also some value to not detailing the silhouette because it clearly demonstrates that the bird is your main area of concern.

I agree that the motorcycle idea sounds bad. do not go with that idea.

i really dig that the wheels arent perfect circles either.

i am going to take as stance between silhouette and no silhouette. make him detailed but keep all the colors rather muted. that way the styles do not so greatly contrast but the focus is still the bird.

I think if the guy is a silhouette the bird ought to be one -- choose one style for the entire thing :) you can use muted colours on the guy and the bike and thus keep the bird the main focus, as it's bright yellow.

i really like this idea, but i'd recommend to going with a silhouette, but i do see both sides..... tough decision....

Please crit!!

i would go silhouette. it took me a while to make sense of this but once i got it i liked it. when you submit you should change the name so that it has something to do with flying or freedom :)

same here.. i think its not obvious enough that the bird is actually flying. But it's a really good concept :)

Thanks for all the tips folks. I'll do the guy in muted colours and keep the bird bright.

I'll redraw the bird, trying to make it clear that it's flying.

iamabeast: I was thinking of just calling it "freedom", but thought that sounded lame. I'll keep thinking.

Much much thanks. I'll let you know when it's done. :-)

...and as far as placement I'll make it smaller but keep the right side alignment. I think that helps show the movement. You agree?

Nice idea! As a title, what about "free as a ...?"

Forest friends, look here!

Yeah cool, thanks Henni. I like it. :)

Unfortunately I have to put this project on hold for 5 months as I'm about to go to Africa. Hopefully you're all still around when I eventually complete it! Thanks folks. Happy designing!
