this is actually REALLY cool. I hesitated to check it out because I thought it would be cliched, but I like it. Can't wait to see the progress.

This is brilliant! And I am saying this without linking to anything, so maybe I mean it!
just for that brilliant reverse psychology I voted on a bunch of your terrific slogans

Actually, this is an awesome idea. Looking good so far!

New version. The lines are thin and soft to compliment the watercolor style I'm going to attempt, but I will be adding some weight and definition, and some ink shading as well.
The first layout & simplistic style I think is way more bold & effective.
*looks again*
Yeah- first one is a 5$. It' radical. |

Wow! It is coming along great!
may* not my
I wonder when someone will notice the inside of the bulb looking like a uterus. Hehehehe.
I guess you answered your own question
yeah mezo that's what I saw at first too actually :D
I thought I'd mention before anyone else did and cause embarassment - it looks like an entire female reproductive system. It has ovaries, fallopian tubes, a uterus and a vagina descending underground.
Ah, shit. Mezo got there first.
Monkey X on Mar 19 '09
i luv this design even more with all those things
Wow, you guys are weird. I mean I imagine like 200 people saying the same thing now, but why do people always see reproductive organs in art?
but im with monkey..I kinda like that you all see that, how natural, and wonderful
LOL @ everything!
Why do you always PUT them in art, Ste7en?!
You got me Aled, im hooked on vaginal art.
It's like an intimate portrait of Mother Nature!
It's looking great, by the way. That spindley root underneath might be better if it spiralled the diameter of the stump and looked like the thread of the screw on a bulb, maybe?
Shhh... the spider is gestating.
the long piece at the bottom is like a lamp chord that you pull to turn on the bulb...or thats the symbolicish intention
i like this a lot! it might work if you made the ovaries (jk) a little smaller/more tenuous, like an actual filament. just seems like it's a disproportionally large to the rest of the bulb.
jokerrabit on Mar 19 '09
keep going your almost there.
So im a bit undecided here whether I want to try a regular coloring style or stick with simulated process (and a yellow halftone for UV ink), so feedback on that is apprciated.
I have a few other things to adjust artwise, I want to better focuse the shape of the bottom of the bulb by adjusting some root formation, which Aled point out. I also plan to make the sapling a bit smaller. |

This is great!!

Dude, this is awesome. Welcome back to the green side btw.
thanks dudes...im still not totally convinced im happy with how the coloring came out

Ste7en, I liked you better when you were fallible.
haha
no, this just isnt doing it for me, back to the drawing board
crazy awesome!

mreisel on Mar 20 '09
I'd like to see the roots spiralling down more to form more of a base to the bulb. Is there going to be bright sun in the center? I think this a great idea and execution, I look forward to seeing it up for scoring. If you get a chance, http://www.threadless.com/critique/38962/Cat_Family_Tree
Thanks |
i think it could use a little something in the upper right for balance, but it's sweet otherwise.
new version, not quite done, but I really like it much better as a tee design this way, im sure some may disagree. UV ink for the bulb as per usual.
I think this needs to be grounded somehow. Maybe a green hill with some flowers around the roots?
I like it andyg, consider it done
the light rays need some work. they are a little too harsh in comparison to the rest of the drawing.
yeah, I was just talking with someone about this, they will be a bit more faded and soft in the end, but thats one of the last things im gonna work on
muckey on Mar 20 '09
i prefer the colors on the last one
Also, i got a new version of Rubik Robots - Unsolved Vs Solved. Critiques are welcome :) |

lahammerman on Mar 20 '09
i think this has a legit chance of winning, except i don't like the part hanging down. besides that, it's awesome!
Santo76 on Mar 20 '09
The previous V was way much better... I would go back to the other color palette and remove those sun beams...
I'm about to submit this one, any comments? |
Francesa on Mar 21 '09
Awesome!
I like the new colors, but the old ones make this different from the standard (less cliche), so I like those too. Comment on mine? Hell frozen over Vote for mine? FAIL |
Final version. Thanks so much to so many people. Ericdiaz for the flash of inspiration, Jublin for the flash...of...presentation, and the countless people that gave me feedback over the last few days.

This is a super quick sketch of my idea. Cliche as the Earth + Lightbulb design is, I think this could turn out fun, when I spend more than 1.5 minutes on it.
Some facts:
1) It will have a lot of green in it.
2) I will redraw the entire thing
3) I am thinking of using yellow UV ink for the bulb..like the sun...and it serves the concept of utilizing nature to power things in a clean way.
4) I am also contemplating a watercolorish style for the colors.
